Sony Wega 42" LCD KF-42WE610 Color Problems

I have a 42" Sony Wega LCD and it has a blur spot in the bottom-middle and right hand corner of the screen. It makes things look blue or pink depend on background color. It started small, but has gotten larger. Now, it is roughly 12" wide and 4" high in the center.

I bought the tv in summer of 04, and the extended warranty I purchased from the retailer is expired.

Any suggestion?

it has a blue line all the way across the bottom

Model KDF E42A10 - Started to notice the blue blob on the TV this Christmas. Called Sony, had one of their service techs come out for the diagnostic (our cost $105.00). Like everyone else it was the Optical block -Cost to repair approx $1000.00. The set is less than 3 years old original cost $2000.00. Called Sony back and talked to level 2 customer service and they instructed me to write to the Executive Committee in Ft Myers, Florida. I am writing to them today. We have owned several Sony tv's and Play Stations. The other tv's are 15 years old and still in use. We are hopeful that they will make good on this claim but from the sounds of the other complaints it doesn't look very promising. We will make another post when we hear back from the Executive Committee.

I have the same problem. My once wonderful TV now has a green and yellow tint. I called Sony and they said I am out of luck because the extended warranty on the Optical Block expired on December 31, 2008 and it is now March, 2009. How in the world were we supposed to know the TV was even recalled?? The problem just started, so what am I supposed to do?? They offered a "deal" on one of their new TVs. Yeah, right, like I'm really going to buy another Sony!! My Vaio was a complete piece of junk too. I wish there was a class-action lawsuit against them for this. I think it is horrible that they have ripped off thousands of consumers with this piece of junk.

Bought my KF-42WE610 March 5, 2004. Bought a 4 year warranty from BB which expired last year. Worked great until today. Still have the original lamp. Used TV hours each night. Today I guess I've got the dreaded yellow blur or "roadmap" from what I've read so far. It's in the middle left and near the center.

By the sounds of the blogs I've read, the kids are going to have a $3,500 video game TV. Can't deal with the yellow blotches. Maybe I'm lucky, I got 5 great years from this TV. On the other hand, if I would of known this unit would only last 5 years, I would have never bought it.

Shame on Sony! Fool me once......

Same thing here however I thought the problem was going away because the spot diminished but now the whole screen is mostly green some colors still show through but for the most part pic as gone green. We had the projection lamp bulb changed less than a year ago.

We also have this piece of junk. Matter of fact we went out yesterday and bought a new samsung tv so the 2500.00 POS now sits in the basement covered since Sony will not stand behind their product and admit that there is a problem.

I agree with the other customer, we all should get together and file a class action law suit against Sony, my light engine and lamp has both gone out. Its only been two years since we purchased our 60 inch Wega. I am sick of Sony products and I refuse to purchase anything else from this company. Sony is garbage!!!!

The deal is your screeweddddd for lack of a better term. Sony has been selling LCD with bad optical blocks for a few years now. They know about the problem and they wont fix it believe it or not. There was one series the Bravad or something there was a class action suit and they covered repairs; However Grand WEGA 42'' LCD and it has everything in a dull yellow with a blue or may be the way it should look in the center. I called Sony to no avail several times. The optical block costs $800.00 not including labor. If you call any good repair place they will know what your talking about right away. I cant even sell it used! I have had Sony products TV being the only TV I ever used and Sony is trying to pull a fast one on and without exaggeration thousands of coustoumers . Now I am stuck wit a yellow screen I,m even embarested to turn on when I have compsany because that is the first thing anyone sees.

Well Sony knows about this and believe me I tried . I even bought a contract and they refunded my money for the contract. They said they wouldn't honor it because I bought it in 2007 and I bought the TV in 2005. Well like i said Sony is aware of this issue they wont back up there product they new was defective before it left there production line. It is the optical block that is defective it would cost 850 for the part and then the service tech will probable hit me for 200.00. the point being that the new. Someone won a class action suit on the previous modle so they couild fix irt but Sony says my mosle isnt covered. Believe mee I spent hours talking annd writing to Sony. Its a
sony it should be the best and now Im ripped with a yellow screen with blue strip. Its really sad. To the gentelman who posted the url
I been there and done that thanks anyway. SDony knows and know I beeat with a 42 inch piece of yellow can even sell it used.

You have a dirty light engine if it is blury. If it is showing a road map looking image it has a defective light engine. The blury image can be cleaned. The road map can't.Sony is very aware of the roadmap problem. It should cost you about dollars to get the unit cleaned.

There is a blue/green light blur on the bottom right hand side of the tv

The problem seems like it is the optical block. When the optical block goes bad blurs will begin to develop on the screen, possibly in the a blue /green or purplish color. Once it begins it will only get worse and replacing it is expensive and impractical since you can get a better television for less money than the parts. Repair is an option, but it is only a short term solution to a problem that lies with poorly made parts that will inevitably fail again. If you are interested in repair check with your local TV repair company, or search eBay and craigslist for advertised optical block repair.

42 sony wega plama veritcal line

The PDP ( plasma display panel) is defect. You can look for badly soldered SMD resistors on the COF panels wich are located at the bottom of the screen.
Beware, the flatcables wich the resistors are located on are verry fragile!

I would check for dust particles before I attempted any type of repair on the unit.

Dust particles will appear as dark spots that are larger than the size of an individual pixel. It must first be determined if the particle(s) are on the LCD panels or the screen.
