Sound like the original color wheel for Optoma HD80 is bad.

If the unit has been moved when hot.

If not, try un-plugging the unit for a few minutes and re-connect.

Hope this helps

My optoma projecter has recently started flashing purple about every 5 seconds. Any suggestions about what the problem could be?

Its an indication that your color wheel is loosing synchronization once in a while.
How old is it and are you out of warranty ?. You will need professional help to get this sorted out.

Optoma h27 colour issues

Check to be sure that the projector is in the correct mode. If it is expecting an RGB signal and you send it (Y,Pr,Pb), you will see the picture as you describe. The same works for the above reversed. In all likelyhood, you are sending RGB and the projector is expecting the other.

Very odd problem. Depending on the hours of the projector it could have some glass in it that over heated. Contact Optoma directly, my guess is they will work with you.. good luck
