    My cd drive (e:) won't read anything I put into it. It says there is no disc in the drive. My D: drive is actually an 80gb hard drive now, so I know that one doesn't work.

    I've put the cd in at least 6 times and it never read it. I tried blowing some of the dust out, but that didn't work either. All I know is that I purchased it about 6-8 years ago, and it's a Wondows XP home edition Dell desktop. Came with cd burner and dvd drive.

    If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated, I don't know all too much about computers, so if it's complex, I might need a detailed explanation. Anyways, please help i need to install this program :*{>[-

Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable acer extensa 542

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy disk
* CD/DVD optical device
* disk-drive
* external CD/DVD
* USB memory stick
* PXE ("Pre eXecution Environment)

To use PXE, you need "media" -- a network cable connecting yur computer to a "boot-server". The "media test faiure, check cable" reports that no network-cable exists, or that it does exist WITHOUT being connected to a boot-server.

Probably, your computer failed to boot from a DEAD disk-drive, and then tried floppy/CD/USB before checking PXE.

Replace the disk-drive.

I have an Acer Aspire 5332 and the CD-Rom/DVD Drive (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7580S ATA Device) is not working properly...every time I put a disk of any kind (i.e CD/DVD/Game) it doesnt recognize it and load

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps you

My CD Player for a [Compaq] Presario V3000 hasn't been working. It worked fine less than a year ago, then it stopped working. My Computer doesn't show the CD icon any longer, not even Device Manager seems...

It will cost about $30 to buy a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer.
Any computer-store technician can easily "manually" open your current drive, and remove the CD/DVD media.

DVD player won't play DVD

Try downloading a DVD player such as uberdownloads. If the player still doesn't work, then look for an mpeg 2 decoder on the website for your video card manufacturer. If you are using windows XP check the region code on your DVD player that matches the region code on the DVD. This is done by selecting my computer, moving the mouse to your dvd player, pressing the right mouse button, selecting properties, and look for the region code. For the US use region 1.

Install xp on acer extensa 4220 hard disk not detected

Acer Extensa supports two model of HDD installation 1) AHCI and 2) SATA.

Windows Vista get installs on both but for Windows XP you need to Enable SATA option.

For that go into Bios, Change option of Hard Disk from AHCI to SATA. After that you can install both XP as well as Vista.

Try it, and mail me update: ansari.yasser@gmail.com

i am using Windows XP on Acer Extensa-4220
