I have a desktop computer(old) also a new laptop provided by the company. I have a software for logistics in both these machines. It produces a report with russian fonts and english fonts. When i print from laptop the reports looks fine with russian fonts printed correctly. But the report printed from the desktop has the russain fonts substituted by some strange symbols like squares, rectangles etc.
I think you will have to install the language and fonts on the desktop, the same as on the laptop, try and find, what the program that is being used on the desktop, and laptop, PC's and make them the same, I suspect it is either the true type fonts, or the language package(s). Ensure that the same version printer driver(s) are installed, too. You didn't say what software you were using, with regards to that the reports were written with, ensure again, both are the same etc. The printer, only prints whats it is being sent from the software sending it. The strange symbols are where the software cannot find the correct letter/font and substitutes another ASCII character. To maybe help with this issue, I always advice my clients to use Adobe as their default word processor, or at least convert to PDF to interchange documents with, it is a well supported software, and everyone has it, and know how to use it. Just a thought.
When your windows os was installed the option for the Russian language installation was not chosen. You will probably need the opersting system disk to install additional languages to your old computer. This will allow your old computer to print in various scripts/languages (out of the ordinary characters).
Another solution is to go to your operating system website (Microsoft, Mac, Linux - whatever) and simply type in "Download russian caracter patch" or some derivation thereof.
Hope this helps
