Question about Hotpoint RB787 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Hotpoint rb787 My lower heating element won't work so we replaced that but still doesn't work. I had a service tech come out and says the mother board and relay need to be replaced--at $245! Does this sound right? The entire range is going for $5-600....

Would it make a difference if the stove top works and the broiler works?

  • shan_keller Oct 01, 2008

I have this same problem; but, I haven't talked to a repair tech yet. I
have managed to check the wires from the eoc to the element and I find
no resistance so the wires are probably good. The clock still works.

The oven will pre heat to set temp, then when it reaches temp the oven beeps and both oven elements turn off. At this point the control panel (clock LED) shows an F2 error.

Good afternoon.
F2 for hotpoint means oven temp sensor thinks oven exceeded 650 degrees .Did that happen?
Probably not so have your sensor checked or replaced. It should be a probe device in oven back wall.

Was this helpful?

How do I remove the bottom heating element?

Kill all power to the stove because the element is wired directly to the element. Then remove the element. nothing to it.

We have a Hotpoint RB787 Electric Kitchen Range. We experienced electrical issues/ power surge and now the oven part of the stove does not work. top still works and only indicators for the top burners...

you will need to replace the control board that contains the clock readout, any power surges ruins these electronics instantly, this can be replaced by removing the rear cover on the back of the unit and remove screws securing the electronic module

Replaced heating element in oven but still remains on.

When the bake element shorted out, did the element make a big bang and perhaps even short against the metal bottom of your oven? I am suspecting the relay on your electronic oven control shorted and fused together. With this in mind, unplug the oven and gain access to the electronic control. Now trace the wire going from the electronic control to your lower bake element. Once you have figured which one it is, remove it from the electronic control. Tape it off with black electrical tape and plug the oven back in. At this pint, the element should not come on. Dis it come on or is it off. If off, replacing the electronic contro is the next step or if handly enough, you can replace the relay on the control...Let me know if I can help further.....
