Question about Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO (F5D9230-4) Router (1010835)

2 Answers

Downloads stop I have a Belkin wireless router that I have connected to a Bigpond ADSL modem. I have a laptop connected to the router (by cable) and another laptop which I connected wirelessly. I also have a PS3. All three connections seem to be able to access the internet but I have a problem when I go to download something from the internet or through the PS3. Basically what happens is that the download starts and progresses to about 25% but then freezes. That is the download just stops. On the PS3 I get a message saying that connection with the server has been lost. Any ideas on how I can resolve this? I have talked to Belkin about this before and they suggested that I change the connection type to Dynamic. This worked for me until I added the PS3 to the network. Now I have the same issue again.

Thanks for the tip but I was directed by Belkin to use a dynamic connection type which does not give me the ability to change the MTU. Should I be attempting to use a different connection type?

I experience the same symptoms. It just stops part way through a download. I'm with Virgin broadband on a cable modem with one wireless conection to my laptop and one hardwired LAN connection to my PC. Virgin state they use a dynamic IP not static. So whats the problem with this router (F5D9230-4)?. Ther are currently no firmware update for this model according to the update firmware button in settings. I would appreciate an answer from BELKIN Tech Department.

    I have the same problem.

The downloads stop in the middle, I can't watch videos on the Youtube (it stops in the middle too), neither talk to my friends by the MSN Messenger, (it keeps loosing the conecction all the time).

I have 1 computer with DSL Modem, and a laptop conected by the wireless conection.

I use the dynamic connection, but this option does not allow me to change the MTU!!! I HAVE TO change it to 1500.

    How do I change it?

    Hope someone can help me...

    Thank you,

    my downloads stop

Yes, direct downloads on the families computers (not P2P) are all stopping. This is especially frustrating because I am trying to update my antivirus. I would like to try the m2u settings change, but I do not know how to do this.

I have the same kind of issues.  DSL with PPPoE cant handle a full 1500 size.  From what I understand it is capped at around 1490 ish and part of that is used to carry the PPPoE information.  I need to know where the settings are to set the routers MTU to around 1400 instead of whatever it is set to (I expect 1500).

I would suggest lowering the MTU (maximum transfer unit) in the router settings.

the highest you can set an MTU is 1500 (except for AOL, it is a bit lower), this will be the fastest, but also the most unreliable.

Try changing it alot lower, see if it helps (you will experience slower internet at this point but see if the downloads complete), if it does, gradually increase the number until everything doesn't cut off anymore.

Hope this helps

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Is your Telstra/Bigpond ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router?
If the ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router and your laptop does not have a wireless card, then you have two options to connect your laptop to the ADSL wireless router/Internet -
1. Purchase a PCMCIA wireless adapter and insert it into the PCMCIA slot in your laptop. One of my favourites is made by Netgear.
2. Purchase a USB wireless adapter, the only disadvantage with this solution is, it uses a USB port and if your laptop has only one USB port. This is a problem if you need to connect other USB devices. Then you also need to purchase a 4 port USB hub to give you additional USB ports.

If the Internet light is off then there is a problem with the phone line to the ADSL modem or the modem is faulty or there is a problem at the telephome exchange.
Disconnect the phone cable at the ADSL modem and connect a phone handset to this cable - check for a dial tone and that you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone, use a different or new phone cable.
If the phone line is OK then : -
Ring your ISP to get them to test your connection to your ADSL

I'm having issues with the belkin F5D7234-4 and intermittent connectivity with the network, i'm running a compaq c502tu and the belkin G/G+ router, which the router is hooked up to a general custom built...

Of the Belkin Modem Routers I have used and supported, around 60-70% had connectivity issues.

If the Belkin was cabled there appeared to be less issues than if it was used in a Wireless and cabled capacity.

I suggested to another person only moments ago to quickly sketch a diagram to show, how the network is set up. Add labels to the piccy's which provide the following info:

1. Computer Types (Makes, Models) and OS (Vista, Windows7, Leopard etc...)
2. Connection Types (Wireless / Cabeled).
3. The IP Nos.
4. Modem Types (Make, Model). ie, Belkin F5D7234-4 Router.
5. ADSL or ADSL2.

If it is possible to upload the diagram to FixYa then I suggest you scan the diagram (sketch) or take a photo of it and put it on the computer so it can be uploaded to FixYa.

I only discovered FixYa yesterday and joined, so I am not sure what is possible yet, as I have been focussed on trying to find solutions or provide suggestions on where to find the solution.

I would be proactive and submit your problem directly to Belkin via their website, I have provided the Australian Belkin website link below:

I hope this is helpful to you, please rate it. Regards,

I cannot connect to the internet with my belkin wireless adapater and i don't know why, please help.

you need more than a wireless adapter to connect to the internet......
you need a wireless network to connect to. in cafe's and pubs the owner sometimes sets up a WiFi network that their patrons can connect to, however most people have to provide their own.

to get to the internet , you will need.

A broadband connection (ADSL / Cable) this normally comes with a standard NON wifi modem
A WiFi Router (including ADSL / Cable Modem) depending on what you have already.

then to link a remote PC / Laptop to this network, A suitable wireless adapter ( like your belkin adapter)

it is a common misconception that a wireless adapter is all you need (advertising is vague)

Belkin Wireless Router won't connect to ADSL

Turn off your modem and your router. Turn your modem back on wait for 2 mins then turn on your router. Try to connect. If that does not work. Connect your computer to the ADSL directly and check if you can get on. if not call your ISP.

You actually have a couple of issues here. Fix these in this order. 1.) Login to router and turn off wireless (if you're not wanting to use wireless) 2.) Connect the ADSL modem CAT5 port to the WAN port of the Belkin router. 3.) Login to router and turn on NAT and make sure DHCP is enabled. 4.) On your Windows machine turn on DHCP under the network settings. This should allow your connection to be setup automatically and stop wireless access on the Belkin router. Let me know if you need more help. JC
