Maytag msd2651, icemaker stopsmaking ice & after a few days icesicles are forming and there are frozen puddles throughout the freezer. What is wrong?

Sounds to me your model MSD2651HEB has two problems. If you see icicle forming near where the water enters the ice maker the problem is the water control valve is defective and allowing water to enter the ice maker even after the ice maker is already filled with the next ice harvest. To repair the ice maker overfill problem you will need to replace the=> 67006531 Dual Water Control Valve
10_16_2012_7_51_14_pm.jpg67006531 Dual Water Contriol Valve
. I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down the rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! Ice on the food

why did you stop the ice maker? was it not working properly? was it over flowing or leaking? do you have a sheet of ice forming in the ice maker tray? if your ice maker was leaking then your water valve is not shutting off completely and could be leaking down on the food. if this is the case - you need to shut the water line off coming into the refrigerator and replace your water valve.

if it is frost that is forming on your food instead of ice then you should check to see if the refrigerator is defrosting properly. if the refrigerator is not defrosting properly you would also first notice that the refrigerator is not cold enough and then later that the food in the freezer eventually thawing.

Clogged drain in freezer compartment

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

The drain sometimes all on its own will freeze. Who knows why. The best was to ensure the drain is clear is to manually defrost the refrigerator. You do this by first unplugging the unit. Then empty the contents of the freezer. Use a fan and place it blowing into the freezer for a little over 2 hours. This will make a water mess so have the rags and mop ready.

After the 2 hour manual defrosting session take a toothpick and make sure the drain is clear. Use your baster and hot water to check it for sure. If it is still clogged remove the back panel of the refrigerator and check the end of the drain for debris. Often what happens is there is some unpleasant goo that builds up on the very end of the drain tube and then it dries n place once the catch basin is dry.

Other times the drain freezing over is a sign of an automatic defrosting problem. When it does not defrost the ice builds up on the evaporator coils and eventually it freezes over the drain. Usually when there is and automatic defrost problem the fresh food section warms up, the ice maker stops making ice and things like ice cream get soft.

Give the manual defrost and drain check a try first. If there really is an automatic defrosting problem in 3 to 4 days the symptoms will repeat.

If at that time you need more assistance just respond here and an expert will help you.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kelly

We have a Kenmore Model#363.9552410 that is a side by side with ice maker inside. We noticed the back wall of the freezer was completely frosted over and no ice was being made. We turned off the whole...

Most likely your defrost timer is defective. Located inside the fresh food section and inside a metal box behind the control panel. Turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. Wait 30 minutes or until compressor restarts If the compressor does not restart turn again until it starts during this time the freezer should be in defrost and sounds of crackling or sizzling is normal. Let me know what you find. The part number for your defrost timer WR9X489

Ice freezing up on bottom of freezer and water puddles in front

Two possibilities, ice maker leaking or the defrost drain is blocked with ice or another object. Unplug the freezer and remove the rear panel in back of freezer. At bottom of the evaporator coil is a tray that catches the defrost condensate and sends it to the pan beneath your refrigerator to be be heated by the compressor and fan heat produced from the condenser. The moisture is then returned to the air inside your home. If the drain is blocked with ice or anything between the freezer and the pan below, the condensate tray will overflow will end up inside your freezer or fresh food compartment. Questions? I will be here to help you, Let me know, Sea Breeze

Freezer seems as if it is not cold enough

Your sensor is packed in ice and giving false reading (always frozen)

You NEED to defrost. Will take 2hr

Turn off or Pull plug on freezer
Take everything out and put in cooler, brown bags, large bin or boxes to stay cold
Defrost by setting large pail of boiling water in each side bottom of freezer and closing door(s) for 1/2hr
Open freezer, empty pails in sink and use pails to hold large chunks of ice from freezer that will come out easily
Toss out ice chunks
Check sensor to be sure it is no longer packed in ice
Wipe down interior dry
close doors
plug in
wait 1/2hr
reload with stuff you want to keep
Done!

Water will not flow into ice maker

This has happened to me a couple of times. First check to see if water is dripping from the water line on the back of the freezer. If it is that means ice has formed at the intake on the back of the ice maker and isn't allowing water to get in. Pull everything out and defrost the freezer for 3 - 4 hours. Make sure you dry everything out before putting the food back in.

Freezer works but refridgerator warm

you could find ice behind the back panel - worth a check. however the problem is probably ice in the return vent from fridge to freezer and the only way to cure is to switch off and leave for a day with doors open. if im right and you try this, if it re-occurs you may have a problem with the defrost system
