My monitor is powered ON but goes blank on its own. I run Windows Vista OS.
I tried connecting the monitor to a laptop and confirmed the same behaviour. This means that the video card on my computers is not the problem.
Sometimes the monitor functions normally.
Is the display going dark, but if you shine a light on the display you can still faintly see an image? If that's the case, the monitor's backilight is going off. That's frequently because of capacitors that fail. You can open the monitor and check them, replacing any that are visibly bad or below their marked value.
If the display is going blank meaning there's no image but the backlight is still on, capacitors might still be to blame, but the might be other electronic parts at fault. The problem might also be in the cable. A bad wire or bent pin making a poor contact can cause the monitor to go blank. Examine the cable carefully or try another one if it plugs in at the monitor.
If the trouble's not something obvious and relatively simple, like the bad capacitors or a faulty cable, it's usually more economical to replace the monitor than to try fixing it. It's often hard to find service information for troubleshooting, and monitors are quite inexpensive now.
Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!
