re MP600: What is the best way to deal with a U150 error on my yellow tank? it is about one third full on first cartridge. I recently replaced the black ink cartridge with a proper Canon PG1 5BK. Should I buy a new yellow cartridge or return the printer to the shop as unusable? If so, what would you recommend as a replacement?
-   I've had the same problem with my 1 1/2 year old MP600 printer. I was on the line with the customer service rep solving ANOTHER problem, mentioned this problem, and he said basically because it was over the year warranty period there was nothing they could do. I told him I would flame Canon online, and he said go ahead. So, here it is. Don't buy Canon products!

-   I've only printed about 50 pages and am getting the same problem on a nearly full black cartridge.
I worked for a reputable refill shop and we have had a lot of troubles with the canon cli 8, especially yellows. They definately have faults. Canon will replace the particular ink cartridge for you or you can return it to the place of purchase and they will send it away and reimburse you. OR get Cartridge World to refill your cli 8's, as they will generally notice if the cartridge is no good when they reset the chip ( The chips are resettable these days.) You will find you will go home with more peace of mind then if you had a genuine.
I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the
little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it
hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old
ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be
recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still
has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges
in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.
Canon should offer a product recall on all printers affected by this common U150 problem. I wonder though if they are even aware of it, or care. There are no forums (as far as I can see) on the Canon web site. Maybe they're clueless, and that's bad. Maybe they're NOT clueless and don't care, and that's bad too.

My IP6600d has suddenly refused to print, saying 'the following ink tank cannot be recognised'. It says its the yllow cartridge, which is half used and a genuine canon item. I have tried taking it out and reinserting it, switching the printer on and off, all to no avail. I can't even run a cleaning cycly as it just won't do anything. What do I do?

I have the exact same problem! A few weeks ago I had to replace a half full blue cartdrige, and that solved the problem. But that is hardly a good solution in the long run. Any ideas?
