First try to reset it, do this by holding down the "Menu" button and the middle button for about 7-8 seconds. If it still doesn't work, try restoring it. Plug it into your computer and open iTunes. Now select your iPod in the list to the left, then click the button that says "Restore," it`s located right under the picture of your iPod model.
Hope this helps!
I had bought a dock for my green ipod mini, and my ipod would be fully charged, and i would use it, and then 5 min. later, the ipod would die.. I figured out that I wasn't using it enough, and it was getting 'over-charged' (as i would put it)

most likely headphone jack is broken. option one is to take it to the apple store and have them repair it. option 2 is to go on e-bay and buy a replacement jack and try to do it yourself. best option is to sell it on ebay as broken/needs repair. Someone who knows how to fix them will buy it from you and you can use the money you get to buy a good used working iPod. There are always tons of nanos for sale on ebay.
