Carpet function rollers don't turn

We have a Kenmore progressive with a power-mate attachment. when the carpet function is turned on, the light lights up and I can hear an increase in power but the roller doesn't turn. any advice? it was turning but when I rolled it from a carpet to the floor it stopped and won't restart. I tried the reset button but still doesn't roll. thank you

Most likely a broken belt. If the brush roll is turning freely, then check the belt.

Belts can look ok, but after a short period stretch so they won't turn the brush roll under load, if you have never changed it, and if it is a flat belt, I would try a new one.

Carpet roller will not turn. Vacuum still sucks up dirt

You may need to replace the belt that drives the roller head. They wear out and break, or maybe it has just come loose. Also check for string and thread wound around the roller wheel axles, that is a common "culprit"

I have the same problem with intermitant power, however, it does not make sense that the problem is in the upper powerhead (which is what a repair guy told me) because-- when I use the other attachements...

You can test the auxiliary plug to the roller/beater attachment with a volt meter if you know how and take precautions. Check for 115-120 volts at the beater/roller attachment plug. If voltage is there and the beater/roller doesn't run, the problem is with the attachment. If not, then the problem is in the power switch or somewhere else that feeds power to the lower attachment.

Hi, I was using, and it stopped suddenly. what does it mean? Burnt out?

no not really if something is keeping the brush rolle from turning then the motor guard will keep it fron running .check if the brush roller can be turned by hand and freely if its real hard to turn then the roller bearings are bad or there are carpet strands tide up around the ends of the roller keeping it from turning correctly.feel free to call me if you need help.i don't charge i just like helping people and saving them money in these rough times.314-628-9153

I had the same problem with my vacuum. I called in for technical service and was told to push the "reset button". It turns out that there is a small red button right next to the dirt indicator light. I pushed the button, plugged the vacuum back in and started it up and it worked like a charm! :) Hope this helps!

check the reset button on the brush assembly which is also called the power mate. if not then take it to your local sears repair center. if it is the pc board. sears has them in stock. I think it is about $7 for the part.
