USB port is not working under windows xp sp 2

USB doesnot work. Connecting a printer, camera or ipod gives the same problem. The computer doesnot see the equipment installed. Steps taken
- install windows xp sp2 again
- install drivers for usb again
According to xp usb is working correctly. When connecting a camera the camera sees the USB port. When connecting an ipod, the ipod is charged.

All worked fine two weeks ago. there were no changes or updates done as far as i am aware since this period.

Does anyone has a suggestion?

I have the same problem with my usb ports on a soltek SL-75FRN2-L motherboard.

I know you said the drivers for USB were installed, but make sure those are from the CD that came with the motherboard and not just the windows xp drivers when you install windows.

Hi,
ensure that USB Support is enabled in The system Bios ?
also if you have a multi-meter, and an old USB Cable. cut the unused end of the cable off, and bear the wires. Would suggest that you put each individual Cable into a 4-5 way block connector, to avoid any un-necessary Arcing.
plug the USB Cable into The PC. And test To see if you Have A 5Volt Live On any of the wires.
Also check that the USB headers are Connected Internally on your System motherboard.
Hope This helps resolve your problems.

Usb suffers from electrostatic charges problems. unplug your PC power cable from outlet for 20 mins and plug it back.

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

Printer hp laserjet 1020

install the printer driver software first by inserting the driver cd into your cdrom drive while keeping the printer powered on BUT NOT PLUGGED INTO YOUR COMP'S USB PORT , the installation program starts automatically during the course of software inst.. a graphic asks you to plug the printer data cable to the port do that and the inst.. will progress on its own.this is the right way to do it.

Freeagent tools is not working

With your XP problem..
Goto My Computer and right click.
Select Manage
In the window that opens select Storage and then Disk Management.

Your drives will be there, but need to be mounted. Right clicking on the drive will give you your options etc.

Your Vista problem I will have ot contemplate, though it's probably a software compatability issue more then anything.

Try running the EXE file under XP compatability, or check the website for an updated version. Be sure to get the 64 bit or 32 bit version as required.

Usb 2.0

Hi,
this is a common error with operating systems and devices.
If you go into my Computer/system/device manager. And remove the installed USB devices. shutdown the computer, and reboot it. then try putting your USB device in.
What general happens, is that if you have had an older device in the USB port at any time, the port configures itself to this setting. options are to try another port on the computer ( some older ports only support usb1.1 )
ensure you have up to date drivers on the connecting device and on the connecting computer.
Hope this helps Mike @ Compurepair.

USB2 high speed not recognize

Try opening up the device manager and unistall everything in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Then reboot and let windows reinstall the USB controllers. Windows should now be able to recognize properly USB2 devices.

Front Side USN dows not work in ASUS M2N MX SE

The front side port may be a "low power" USB port, it may be possible to "power" this if there is the capacity to connect a power cable to the front panel USB adapter, or there may be an aux power socket to plug into on the motherboard.

Front side USB port is not working

On some computers the front usb ports are like a usb hub, they don't have enough power to power up a hard drive.
