Are you indicating that the clock, fan and panel would still work-- but the microwave would not heat-- if the fuse was blown? Should I check the fuse?

    Thanks.

You're right. I found this number inside JVM1450WA001....

I tested all fuses including the thermal fuses, the button shaped with a wire on each side. One of them did not have continuity (did no measure short) and I ordered it yesterday. It's the one that says 40/70 in the back part.

You think this could be the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

Hey, great timing. I got the part this morning, replaced it, but it not heating.... The thermal fuse I ordered is part# WB27X10194; this one was NOT near the Magnotron: it was in the compartment behind the keypad panel. The one next to the Magnotron was good.

When I turn it on, I hear a sound like sparks. How can I determine if it's the magnotron?

A decent microwave in my area is going for 250, so I'm going to have to fix this one.

Before I order the Magnatron, I have one question: Does the sparking sound mean the magnatron is bad?

Remove power from the unit back the cover off the unit above the magnotron is a button shaped thing with two wires on either side of it. there is another one above the heat box. measure them with an ohm meter. these are thermal fuses they should measure short if open replace them. if short replace the magnotron. the magnotron is a high voltage device so arch it first to discharge any stray voltage.
common problems to microwaves are:
door switches; make sure they open and close the circuit properly use the meter to check.
fuses (thermal and circuit); make sure they are good use a meter.
High voltage to the magnotron; you need a high voltage probe for this ( same type used in tv repair). make sure you are getting at least 20kv if not replace the high voltage board.
the magnotron; common failure.

also, the model # you give is a series of microwaves the real model # should be on the inside of the door or side of the door. post that so I can give you part #s

  • Robert Johnson Mar 04, 2008

more than likely that is the problem. if it should open again then the problem is the magnatron is over heating and needs to be replaced.

  • Robert Johnson Mar 10, 2008

how have you made out so far?

  • Robert Johnson Mar 10, 2008

sparking sounds are internal arching from the magnatron replace the magnatron part # WB27X10017

  • Robert Johnson Mar 10, 2008

yes arching is from the magnatron it's bad

Did you inspect the board for burnt components or cracked traces or solder joints?

Also suspect the magnetron, might be easily replaced.

Otherwise, new ovens are getting fairly cheap, I recently bought a Panasonic unit at Walmart for $80 CAD and it's a 1.1 cubic feet 1000W oven, works awesome.

This guide here mentions testing the diodes in the high voltage transformer: http://www.partselect.com/microwave+test-diode+repair.htm

Check this SITE for troubleshooting the transformer and magnetron. The magnetron fail very often on microwaves, that is the device that heats up the food.

HELLO!!

Usually if the internal fuse had blown, the microwave part would stop working all together.

Pledase check the operation of the door safety interlock system. If you routinely open the door while the oven is operating, these small switches will eventually burn out and not work.

Why would my microwave no longer heat or cook?

micro waves use a tube inside that generates micro waves and like a light bulb they eventually blow out. the tube is not considered replaceable and cheaper to just get new unit.
