The default fax confirmation setting is Every Error. This means that your HP Officejet prints a report only if there is a problem with sending or receiving a fax. A confirmation message indicating whether an item was successfully sent appears briefly on the front panel display after each transaction. To have a confirmation printed for every fax, follow these instructions.
1 Press Setup. 2 Press 1, then press 1. This selects Print Report and then selects Automatic Reports Setup.
3 Press direction right button until Every Fax appears in the second line of the display, and then press OK.
The HP Officejet will print a confirmation report every time you send a fax informing you whether the fax was sent successfully or not.
The "Check Printer" error can usually be cleared by unpluging the fax from the wall outlet, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. If the fax is connected to a UPS, or multioutlet strip, it is highly recommened to plug it directly into the AC wall outlet.
If the message stays in the display, try opening and closing all the access doors to the fax. If that still doesn't return the machine to operating properly, then you will probably need to take it to your service provider.

Make sure the telephone wire is
plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without
splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another

Follow the steps below to perform a fax diagnostics test.
1.
Set up the all-in-one for faxing according to the setup instructions found in the product's User's Guide.
2.
Make sure you have inserted the print cartridges and loaded paper before starting the test.
3.
Press Setup, 6, and then 6. This displays the Tools menu and then select Run Fax Test.
The HP all-in-one displays the status of the test on the color graphics display and prints a report.
4.
Review the report.
*
If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.
*
If the test fails, review the report for more information on how to fix any problems found.
5.
After you pick up the fax report from the all-in-one, press OK. Then turn the printer off, and then on again. If necessary, resolve any problems found and rerun the test.
If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.
