Question about Rival S16SG Electric Skillet

Rival Electric Skillet S16G

I have only used my skillet a few times and have never used any metal utinsels in it, now the non-stick coating is bubbling and peeling off into my food. Is there anything that can be done about this? The product was not cheap. I should be able to use it more than just a few times.

I have the same problem. Product has never had a metal utensil used in it, yet the teflon has appeared cheap in it. Like it was a cost savings to use less mill's thick. The company saves money on the coating, and the customer gets a 50 dollar product that is a piece of junk. Tim

Me too!!!! The coating is coming off and I've never used any steel utensils. Is there a replacement pan available?

I just got my skillet and made chili in it and the teflon bubbled and came off in my chili. Now I have a $65.00 skillet that is useless unless I can find a new replacement pan. This skillet was made poorly and I'm very upset about it.

Everything I cook in this skillet taste like teflon coating, you can not eat the food. It looks like the teflon might be coming off. I also have a problem with the lid top made out of teflon, it will burns you fingers every time you use it.

I've tried to find a replacement pan for my Rival Electric Skillet {S16SG} with no luck! Being it's almost new and the teflon is already peeling off I decided to try anything??? rather than toss the entire unit out. I've been lining the entire pan with heavy duty aluminum foil when I fry chops, chicken, etc. The meat may take abit longer to brown yet it does work. It's a better solution than getting sick from the toxicity of teflon [see above] or not having any electric skillet. I personally think Rival should replace the pan for free being it's their mistake in manufacturing the skillet. Good Luck!

I called Rival to complain and she said they would send me a new skillet ASAP. Now I got an e-mail telling me they decided not to send it. They know when I bought it ( proof on the net) but insist on a receipt, which I didn't keep. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE SKILLETS!!!! Bad news!

Hi, Your skillet is either defective or someone has left it on high with nothing in it. Either way, if it is still under warrenty, I would try and return it. As there is some debate about the toxicity of teflon, I would be very careful about using this unit any further.

If you are going to keep the skillet, try using steel wool to remove the loose teflon, maybe even sanding it all off if you want, then polish with fine steel wool and use the skillet as a regular uncoated electric fry pan.

Hope this helps, and if you found this response satisfactory, please vote. Thanks and good luck.
