Maybe because I left it in my car in freezing cold weather (15 F), my nuvi 250 w lost "E" and "R" from typing screen. "E" is replaced by "D" so there's 2 "D"s and "R" is now "P" so 2 "P"s....how can I fix this problem??

I have the same problem. I sent one unit back to the store and now its happening on my second garmin nuvi 250W. Holding the reset button and then connecting back to a power source does nothing.

same as described....lost letters and doubled others

Various letters are missing, but in their places are duplicates of other letters. Somewhere I found a "solution"--connect the unit via USB cable to a computer. Wait for the unit to be recognized as a "removable disk drive". Disconnect, and...Magic! It's fixed.
This has worked twice for me (and the weird behavior went away on its own a couple of times). But I don't usually keep a laptop in the car just to do brain surgery on a flaky GPS device. COME ON, Garmin!
