Question about Jura Capresso C1000 Espresso & Coffee Maker

1 Answer

Sudden low espresso quality

I've had my C1000 for about 5 years now, and have been very pleased with it. About 3 weeks ago, the espresso started tasting very 'off'. Not just bitter, but other flavors that I can't identify. The off taste isn't as bad when I use the pre-ground chute, but still there.

I've changed coffees, cleaned the metal screen, and removed the filter in the water tank in case any of that was causing the problem. Nothing helped.

I have some Durgol solution, but I can't figure out how to put the machine into "cleaning required" mode so that I can clean it.

Do you have any suggestions? Should I get a Torx screwdriver and take the unit apart to clean it?

It's fully operational as is; the quality is just poor.

Thanks for any advice you may provide

Have you been using the cleaning tabs regularly? If not, that is the first step. Second, if the time for brewing is too long then it goes bitter quickly. I time shots at about 11 seconds and add hot water after that. If you take taste tests for longer periods you can tell where it goes bad quickly and adjust the timer to stop at the right spot. Maybe timing changed. Have you had the wiring recall? If not, call Capresso and see if they'll still recall for free and they will also offer and exchange or full repair of existing unit.

My X1 keeps causing the power to go off. It was very sudden, was working fine last week. Please advise.

You have a short circuit in your machine. To solve this, you must open it and measure the wiring. Weakest part is the heating element, this can be replaced.

I have my Silvia for 3 years and for the last couple week, it gives me espresso watery with no crema. I havent changed anything for the last 3 years. Please help!

It definitely needs preventive maintenance once a year. There could be a couple of issues causing watery espresso. You could have a clogged shower screen or cracked porta-filter basket. They bypass valve from the pump could be leaking causing low pressure (check this by pulling a shot and seeing if water continually flows back into the tank via one of the water hoses).

Why won't my starbucks serina froth milk. Just stopped doing this all of a sudden. I descaled, the little hole in wand isn't blocked. The milk heats but no froth.

This problem developed on my Sirena machine about a week ago. Stopped frothing milk, but still produced lots of steam. In fact, it was splattering milk everywhere, just not producing foam. Cleaned the steam wand (including air intake) and descaled the machine (even though its only 3 months old) to no avail. Called Saeco customer support (1-800-933-7876) and the very helpful rep immediately identified the problem. Inside the Panarello steam wand is a removable plastic tube. The tip of this tube should protrude about 1/8" beyond the end of the steam wand. Mine was not. Using the eraser end of a pencil, I pushed the inner tube downward into position and, voila, I now have froth again.

Aeroccino deosn't make froth

Our aeroccino worked fine for 2 years and suddenly it didn't made foam anymore. We tried the "inverting trick" without much success. We contacted Nespresso and they suggested switching from regular fresh milk (we used 2%) to UHT milk (harder to find in US) and to use it cold and freshly opened. So we tried that and it works.
Hope this solution works for you too
