Inspect the area around the brush roll. There may be something stuck somewhere in there. Remove the brush roll to see if the brush roll end caps will spin freely. If there is hair or debris restricting the brush roll may be causing noise.
It sounds to me like one of the hoses is plugged, probably the one that comes from the brushroll. That would make the dust and dirt come back out the front and would not let the vac pick up like normal. Clear the plug and you're machine should start cleaning better again.
My first guess is there is something caught in the pickup wheel. 1. remove the belt cover to access the pickup wheel 2. remove strings and hair around the ends 3. if you can, remove the belt and see if the noise goes away when you turn it on, this will help to isolate the problem How old is the unit? Does it pick up dirt good? Describe the sound, clicking, rubbing, wheezing, bangin' or clangin'
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=40860&thid=810370 Really loud noise. Posted by Theresa626 on July 20, 2008 The belt inside my Hoover broke and so we replaced it. But when we did, it now makes an extremely loud noise when turned on. We think it’s the roller to the vacuum because it doesn't make a noise when the roller is not in there. The roller sounds like its hitting something. However, we have pushed and pulled and done everything and all seems to be right. Everything is clicked in and the belt is on correctly and we've followed the manual. How can I fix this problem? Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me that it is a bad brushroll and could need new bearings or a complete new brushroll depending on if id is metal word or plastic. Some brushrolls are rebuildable and some are not, you can check your owner’s manual to see if it is or is not; or it could be the start of a broken fan blade or bearing in the motor section. But that is the only thing that I can think of that might be wrong. Feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can also contact the Hoover website or cust serv phone # listed below. When I turn my vacuum cleaner on the noise of the motor is extremely loud. It is only about three months old and was never this loud. Any ideas?
