Burning plastic smell in ViewSonic E55 monitor

Just bought a ViewSonic E55 monitor, and almost immediately started to notice a burning plastic type of smell. Not overpowering, but enough to notice and cause slight burning of the eyes. Even thought this doesn't sound like something that should happen, I'm wondering if something just needs to "burn off" as it is brand new. Any tips? Thanks/

My monitor is making a electronic sort of distortion noise (sizziling). Anyway to rectify it?

Check the security of the power cord and look for damage to the plug and moulded plug, see the pins are in tight, vheck the plug socket on the monitor to see the reccieving pins are not bent or damaged.

After that, the issue lies in a short or developing short on the board, if you notice any smell (burning plastic ), you should stop using it and get it tested and repaired

Most monitors that have the OSD menu locked can be unlocked by holding down the OSD button for 20-30 seconds. Try it.

Hope this helps! :D

VX922 19" Monitor -Terrible customer service by ViewSonic

The only advice that I have on this issue would be to call ViewSonic again and as soon as you get a Rep on the phone you need to ask for a supervisor. In the event that the supervisor is not helping you ask to speak to his supervisor. Make a point to mention the issues that you had in the past and then make them aware that you are upset while maintaining your cool because they will be more apt to work with you if you remain calm.

If all else fails you might mention that there is a burning or smoke smell coming from the monitor :-)

Viewsonic crt monitor support

Take it to the store and request an exchange. If they refuse tell them you will contact the BBB or Atty's General and file a complaint. If it was sold with a warranty and is still valid with proof of purchase they should honor regardless. These guys are just doing there jobs at the store level and I'm sure you can get it rectified.
