Vostro 1000, the setup have a password. I can`t change the boot

what op system is on laptop. you may try using setup disc boot from disc change password leeve it blank then restart after that it should boot with out asking for password , after restart go to users set new password. hope this helped.

Try going into safe mode. Press F8 when you start the computer and then select "Safe Mode with networking" you should then be able to run a couple of diagnostic programs or a virus checker. You can even do a system restore from there.

A system recovery is a option.

You can set two passwords

1. Setup password, used to access and change settings
2. System password, used to restrict access to the system

If you have set the first one, which is asked only if you press F2 and try to access setup / BIOS settings, and if you can still go to windows, download the latest firmware for this computer and execute it. This will update the firmware after erasing the old settings, thereby erasing the existing password also. Ensure you do this process when your battery is fully charged and also with the power adaptor connected and on. During the process if the system powers down then this will turn your motherboard faulty and it can only be replaced by Dell.


If you have set the second one, which asks everytime you start your computer and waits in a black screen for a password then you can only get this reset by Dell, if you have warranty call them else using another computer write to them.

During the boot up process you will see on the screen press a certain key to enter set up

Press either delete or f2 during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

There is no Jumper on a Dell Vostro 1000 to clear the password. You will have to contact Dell Technical Support, Complete a ownership validation to confirm you are an authorized user of the system, then they can provide you with a Master Password to clear the password
