Brush roller will not rotate on Dyson dc04 absolute

The brush will not rotate when the machine is upright. The brush only rotates when it is reclined; in use.
On the side of the housing where you place your foot to recline it is a round knob. Turn it one click clockwise if you can; to the "auto" position.
If the brush doesn't turn then when the machine is reclined, it needs attention to the belt and/or clutch mechanism.

How do I replace the belts on a Dyson DC04 purple

That model has a clutch unit from which the two drive belts are located. It is a technical job to strip that unit down to change the belts, so the easier solution if you have a snapped belt, is to replace the clutch unit (that comes with belts on it). A recycled one represents better value for money, and you can get one here: Dyson DC04 clutch unit.

I have a Dyson DC04 which is making a strong burning smell within a few seconds of switching on. Is this likely to be the motor and if so can it be replaced?

More likely it is the beater brush which is jammed and not turning. Turn the machine over and remove the bottom plate. Unhook the drive belt, then try to turn the beater brush--it is likely bound up with string, thread, and hair. Try turning the machine on once--if the motor spins and makes vacuum, it is probably ok. Remove the brush assembly and clean it of debris. Clean the end bearings with a Q tip and WD40 oil, then wipe clean with another Q tip. Oil the bearings with 3-1 or other light oil. Check the belt for a badly burned area--replace if necessary. Slide the new belt over the brush and motor shaft, then drop the brush with bearings into the case, and check rotation. If ok, replace the plate and test on your floor. Hope this helps!

I changing the belt

Hi,

Not sure why you claim clutch belts cant be changed because they can.
The DC04 DC07 DC14 all use the same clutch unit if you cant get the belts from your local vac repair shop look on Ebay they are on there.
The special tools are torx screwdrivers & if replacing both belts you will require circlip pliers.

How to replace both belts in manual form can be found here http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/index.htm

Dyson DC07 drive belt replacement

Hi.

The other end of the drive belt the part you cant see goes to a clutch.
The clutch unit has 2 belts one is clutch to motor the second is clutch to brush roller.
You obviously look after your machine because you say you have had no problems with belts or clutch for 5 years.
Both belts & clutch can be worked on but its alot to explain so look at this site for service manuals.

Dyson dc04 absolute

Hi Diana.

Your Dyson has A clutch this has 2 belts, One goes clutch to motor the second goes clutch to brush roller.

You have either A snapped motor to clutch belt or the clutch control knob is not rotating to drive position when you pull the handle back to clean carpets.

Firstly check the control knob this is situated on the front lower left hand side of machine.
EG if your machine is silver & yellow the knob will be yellow approx 2" or 5cm in diameter as I said ensure it moves from off or park to drive if it doesnt move rotate it by hand when you have lowered the handle to vac carpet.

If still no brush roller drive you will need to strip machine down to remove the clutch & gain acces to the belts.

Its A lot of work to explain so try this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/ for clutch removing manual can send via email very quickly.
