In the old days computers used, to come with a set of CDs to restore your computer in case, of a computer crash or any other disaster. Today's computers don't come with CDs in lieu they store all the necessary files to restore your computer in a different partition of the Hard drive. For example: your PC has a 500GB hard drive they partition it by 2 one named drive C with 400GB disk space the other is named drive D with 60GB. The drive D with the smaller capacity is the one that has all the files to restore your PC in case of a computer crash, or if you wish to restore your PC to its original state. This is useful if you got a lots of spy-ware or viruses all you have to do is restart your computer and hit the restore key (F11) and follow the instruction. You should have the option to erase everything and format the hard. Before doing this make sure you save, all your important information. The following document is from the Pavilion dv7-1132nr manual: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3807258&lang=en& Recovering from the dedicated recovery partition (select models only) NOTE: If your computer includes an SSD, you may not have a recovery partition. You will not be able to recover using this procedure. Recovery discs have been included for computers that do not have a partition. Use these discs to recover your operating system and software. On some models, you can perform a recovery from the partition on the hard drive from either the Start button or f11. This restores the computer to it's factory condition. To restore the system from the partition, follow these steps: 1. Access Recovery Manager in either of the following ways: ● Select Start > All Programs > Recovery Manager > Recovery Manager. ? or ? ● Restart the computer and press f11 while the ?Press for recovery? message is displayed on the screen. Then select Recovery Manager. Recovery Manager opens. 2. Click Advanced Options. 3. Click System recovery, and then click Next. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 8 Chapter Best of luck Sabre
I assume you've backed up everything? Get out those disks you either received with the laptop or made after you bought it. Run those and the laptop will be like new. Now what if you didn't make those disks? You can go online to the HP site and download a set of disks. HP usually allows this one time. If you can't then you'll need to download all the drivers for your laptop, put them on a CD and have them ready when you install your operating system. Now just start your operating system disk and make a new install and formatting the hard drive. I know the next question, what if I don't have an operating system disk? Well, of course you can buy one. But I think as a money saver you should check with your friends. First make sure of your exact operating system you need. You can find that on the bottom of your laptop. There is a Microsoft label that tells the operating system that was originally installed on your laptop and the product serial number. Now, try to get an original operating system disk from one of your friends. When you install the operating system at some point it will ask for your serial number. Use the number on the bottom of your laptop. Good luck
