Question about Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

1 Answer

My Canon Powershot A530

When I attach the camera to the computer it does not automatically transfer the photos onto the computer. I used to plug it in and a window would open asking to download pictures. I do not get that anymore. I re-loaded the software and that did not fix the problem. I also cannot view my photos on the camera screen. I can only see the last photo. I was able to view all my photos in the past. I cannot find my book but think I changed a setting by mistake. How can I fix this???? Help!!!!!

I recently got a new computer and am now on Windows XP, I cannot install the USB driver from the camera installation disk because Windows XP is different form Windows 98. it says I have to login as administrator to do that part-which DOES NOT WORK.
So I cannot download pics from my cramera, don't even get a new hardware found or ANYTHING!
is there a driver out there that will work on a canon powershot A530 and windows XP?????

I can't help with the camera, but to view the pictures on the computer, remove the card from the battery compartment and put it in a card reader connected to your computer.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

If you have plug & play activated, just plug in the camera and open Windows Explorer. You will see the camera listed as a drive. Just drag the pictures to where you want them. Give it time to process before disconnecting.

Canon PowerShot S51S camera, trying to transfer photos from computer onto the memory card so we can use the card in a digital photo frame? Don't know how to transfer?

you have to use the data cable (which one come with your camera) to store pictures to your XP/Vista PC. Just connect the cable into your camera and PC, your PC detected your camera automatically as an drive, then you can transfer pictures.

Canon A530 turns off

If you're not currently using rechargeable NiMH batteries, recommend trying them to see if that corrects the problem. But either way, also recommend reading the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. I own many cameras and I never connect any of them directly to my computer to download photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Your camera is designed to be a source of pictures, not a destination. If you want to copy pictures to a memory card, you need to use a card reader and not a camera.
