When you turn the key to the "run" position, listen and see if you can hear a buzzing noise coming from the under the bed. This is your fuel pump buzzing for 2-3 seconds. If it isnt buzzing, you most likely have a faulty fuel pump. If it does buzz, check the fuel pressure. There is a schrader valve on the fuel line under the hood near the back of the intake manifold. You will need a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure. If it doesnt build 50-60 psi, it will most likely, again, need a fuel pump.

sounds like your fuel pump is going out. Next time it happens remove fuel cap and have someone turn ignition to the on position not crank. You should hear the fuel pump run for 2-4 second. If you don't hear it come on then try beating your gas tank hard with a rubber mallet while Ignition is in on position.listen for fuel pump to come on. If it starts after this then fuel pump it ?s.
You may be having an intermittent failure with the fuel pressure regulator - checking the fuel pressure when the truck won't start may pinpoint this problem. If the pressure looks OK, this same problem can be caused by the ignition system as well (ignition coil or control module).
I believe it firing order is 1-4-2-3 (where cyclinder #1 is the closest to the fire wall) and your distributer has the plug wires running almost vertically.
1st cylinder = the very bottom
4th cylinder = second from the bottom
2nd cylinder = second from the top
3rd cylinder = the top connection on the distributer.
