Pcmcia slot fault

Pcmcia slot started to fail after a XP update not sure if the main board just failed at the exact same time or somehow there is a softwear issue.network card started turning on and off during use and failed a day later.still have wireless through the usb 1.1 port with usb 2.0 belkin wireless card but seems much slower.im more of a parts changer than a pc wiz if I know its broken I can replace it but dont wanna be buying a main board if not needed.

Redownloaded all the drivers pcmcia slot still dead.Otherwise im looking for a work around to the failed pcmcia slot and lack of the plug in high speed wireless card.the mini pci slot on the 2170 us does not have the builtin wireless card or antena installed like the 2175us. anyone know compaq/hp well enough to know if its a possable repair/upgrade ?

I guess the idea is to work around if possable spending 2/3 the cost of a new laptop

The problem with working with HP. is one the price $400 or more for a 5 year old laptop mother board is a waste.the other is HP after talking to parts and tech service does not want to sell a mother board.HP wants the laptop sent in for repair im guessing $500 or $600 in the very least.get a new one for less than that.the mini pci wireless card and antenna trick if it would work is used under $30.I guess the new ones dont even have a pcmcia slot and use usb 2.0.mine is only usb 1.1 if the compaq 2175us mother board will fit in the same case as the 2170us id just do the up grade as it has built in wireless and the bottom halfs look to be the same.but not something id wanna spend $150 on without knowing from a compaq pro if its even possable.

Sounds like a uProcessor or memory fault to me..that sort of board wide failure is mostly due to a memory issue..

i know it well enough to know that you are dealing with a partially dysfunctional motherboard.

on this sort of thing, there is no work around integrated mother boards makes it unlikely to isolate it, such as in the discreet plug in slot card days.

I have a magnavox model 32md311b/7 green light blinks a couple of times then turns red and won't turn on

Sounds like the main digital board fault. These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

Blue screen on start-up. Mobo SIS-741 Chipset SIS741GX Rev 03

This problem can be caused by several things. First, are the memory chips exactly identical (brand, type, size, etc.)? If not, that will definitely cause the problem. Second, how many memory slots are there? If you have four, check the manual and make sure you're putting the memory in the correct slots. Some Mobo's require that you put chips in slots A1 and B1 and not A1 and A2. Also, some Mobo's have DDR slots and DDR2 slots, so make sure you're putting the right kind of memory into the proper slots. Some people fudge the memory by putting 400 mhz memory into slower slots, and that works one chip at a time - but if you install a second, identical chip, the system will fail. If all else fails and you've met these conditions, check the type of memory to be sure of the proper fit (use manufacturer's recommended brands and numbers) or try a different chip in the second slot. One chip could be bad.

Error Code in Diagnostic 1000-0146 BUT MY COMPUTER WORKS?????

The 1000-0146 is a diagnostic result indicating a failing hard drive. Just because the drive fails diagnostics, doesn't mean it will not function and is may run for an extended period before if becomes unusable. But take this as a warning and backup any important data you have on that drive NOW.

As far as your PCMCIA Card slot not working.
  1. Ensure it is enabled in the BIOS and you have no driver errors in Device Manager.
  2. If those all check out, replace the card cage: http://cgi.ebay.com/DELL-LATITUDE-D600-PCMCIA-SLOT-CAGE-CMD3BE7632_W0QQitemZ280331231481QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item280331231481&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

If thats the case that the pcmci is working on other laptop but is not working on your laptop thats there is a fault within your Pcmci slot is faulty and what you will have to do is that if there is still one more place for you to slot the Pcmci then do that but if there is not then you will have to find a pcmci that will be USB then you can be using that for the main time before you desold the pcmci slot away from the laptop and resold a new one for proper functioning ok .thanks

PCMCIA slot and DVD/CD

This is kind of a multi tier question answer that requires you do some diagnostic. First, is the PCMCIA slot and DVDrom on the same side of the computer? Also, do you always use the PCMCIA slot? First diagnostic is to try and boot off a XP cd or recovery cd you should have got w/ the computer to see if the DVDrom is in fact not functioning. Next, if you have the ability to try a different PCMCIA card in the slot that would be helpful.

There is a very good chance the PCMCIA slot damaged your board if you use a card all the time as some devices out there can get REALLY hot and do some internal damage.
