Question about HP PhotoSmart 7660 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

How do I insert a 57 tri-color print cartridge

There are absolutely no instructions or descriptions on what side is up or down or sideways...nothing is intuitive about how this cartridge should "slide in easily". (Also, the black cartridge has been empty for over a year so I don't have the distinct advantage of seeing how it is inserted).

Please help! What side is on top?? I've tried several ways and every way feels like I'm forcing it and it doesn't snap in at all. I'm afraid I'm going to break the mechanisms and then I'll be throwing this out the window.

Thank you.

The printhead is the part which should go down, this is the small silver rectangle part where the ink comes out. You will notice at one end of the cartridge there is some electronic circuits..this is the part which should face towards the printer when inserting. Each ink cartridge has its own place in the printer and you can normally see that where the black ink goes the cover is black and where the colour ink goes the cover is normally green...i hope this helps

Continually says align print cartridges

My guess is that the color cartridge is either defective or not inserted correctly. I have a 6110 and know that inserting a print cartridge is a little tricky. If it isn't completely inserted and the top latch fastened correctly, the cartridge either won't work or produce errors.

Try reseating the color cartridge so it's inserted in exactly the same way as the black cartridge and run a print job again.

Open the following web page and go to Step three to see the instructions for cleaning the electronic contacts on the cartridge and print carriage.

Ink Cartridge Alignment Fails

Those seem the most likely causes and solutions to me. Good luck.

  • To remove a cartridge from the protector, push down and back on the top of the protector to release the cartridge and then slide the cartridge out of the protector.

Ink cartridge problems

exchanged the black cartridge (57): the printer told me there was a problem with it, that I should remove it and re-insert it. I did, the ink button still blicks. After several efforts the printer started to work again, printed one document and then told me there was a problem with the colour cartridge. I removed it, re-inserted it several times. Finally a test page was printed - everything was okay.

Then the printer refused to print anything - the yellow LED lamp blicks continuously. Have turned the printer on and off, have also shut down the computer and re-started.

The only thing that will work now is the black cartridge, if I remove the colour one.

Color Cartridge Failure

You know, I'm not going to read the other solution. I know 100% FOR SURE, when a cartridge fails, it is dead and there is nothing you can do about it, but there is a good side. HP ink cartridges have a year warranty. Call them and tell them it failed, they'll send you a new one!
