I have a brother ce4000. I am getting an e1 message every time I push the pedal. I have the foot in the down position. I have sewed something heavy and the automatic stop mechanism has been tripped. How do I reset the machine.

Page 62 of the manual does not have any reference to E1 requiring a re-set.

E5 does state to unplug the foot control and use the start-stop button. This might work as a re-set.

E1 error brother ce 4000

Hi.
You can get the E1 error if the presser foot is not down. If you use the walking foot attachment it can keep the foot from coming all the way down.

What does e2 mean on a sq9950 brother sewing machine?

It means either the thread is tangled, or you pressed the pedal while the presser foot was still up.

I am getting error message E4 when foot pedal is plugged in. Unplug the foot pedal and the machine goes back to normal with the exception that you really can't sew without the foot pedal.

Your reverse reinforcement stitch button was pushed or needle position was pushed while bobbin winder was moved to the right. You can download a free manual brother-usa.com and you will see all of the troubleshooting and error messages there

Persistent E1 message

some machines have a presser foot sensor or switch which prevents the machine sewing if the foot is not down.

if your presser foot is down and you still cannot sew the switch or switch actuator is most likely damaged. you will require a tech to repair this.

I get the e1 message

I have a different model but I had the same problem. It started after I took the cover off to fix something else. After I screwed the cover back on, I kept getting the E1 message even when the foot was already down. I took the cover off again, and I found that there is a metal tab at the top left of the front cover, that is pushed by a metal tab in the back that moves when you put the presser foot up or down. You can see this metal tab moving in the back if you put the foot up and down with the cover off. Just putting the foot down(I think) before putting the cover back on fixed it so one metal tab is on the correct side of the other metal tab.
