Question about Teac R-H300 Dual Cassette Deck

1 Answer

No Power I purchased this deck about 7 years ago and have played it for a total of about 5 minutes. I went to use it today and it doesn't power up. I checked the fuse inside and it is good.

I used an ohm meter. I tried several different outlets. I opened up the unit and went in as far as I felt comfortable going in, I couldn't find any more fuses. Unfortunately it does sound like a power supply, I guess I'll have to send it in for repair. Thanks.

How do you knoe it's good? Does it LOOK good, or did you test it with an ohmmeter? Sometimes - particularly when the get old a fuse can LOOK good, but be bad.

Other possibilities - power cord, plug or outlet bad (is the outlet the un it's plugged into on a switch? Are there other WORKING appliances plugged into the same outlet?)

Sometimes there are other fuses not readily visable - INSIDE the unit.

Last - and worst power supply in the unit simply quit. And that a big repair.

Let me know what you find.

Repair a flickering play button

It can be a bad capstan belt, bad motor or a power supply issue. I would have to see the unit to tell you what. I replaced motors in Onkyo TA2700 units not too long ago. The little DC motors in them do not last forever. But the units can be repaired in the right hands.

Take out the tape and press play, do the wheels move? if not the motor has burnt out, the tapes may have been sticky. Hold a tape and wind the wheels with your finger, are they difficult to move?

Pioneer deck powers on but won't play, just flashes 0000 on both timers

Units that sit do not exercise the belts and this causes some belts to become deformed and then other to just decay to like a tar. Look inside the unit to see if the motors are turning. If they are you will see it needs new belts. If the motors are not turning then the likely cause is Electrolytic Filter capacitors in the power supply. They don't do well sitting either.

I have a TEAC W-450R Stereo Double Reverse Cassette Deck. For some reason, the REC/PLAY II side will not operate. It has not for some time. In fact, that is why I believe I mothballed it some years ago....

I have not seen those to a large extent due to their value not being worth a repair. I did work on them at Teac though. The capstan motor of the right side deck sound like it is burned out. I have some motors here so it is just a matter of if you want me to work on it or not. I get a lot of units in all the time- I am Skywave Tape Deck Repair in Chicago area.

This would indicate a power supply problem in that the counter being reset. I would check the entire power supply for a any thermal broken solder joints and redo them with the power off. If you need further help I am in the Chicago area and am known as Skywave Tape Deck Repair.

Hi, I am brand new to this site. So I may not be very good. However your prob sounds like one I had a few years back. I solved mine by using two pencils, one in each hub.
Then winding manually from one to the other. This is quite time consuming, but it worked for me. Hope this helps, if not, sorry for wasting your time.
