there is a problem with my sound device

  • ROBIN HOGUE Jul 25, 2008

Same thing. all of a sudden, no audio whatsoever, not even the quickplay buttons beep, except out of the earphone and spdif jacks. fine there. almost like it thinks the earphones are always plugged in. but i hardly ever use my earphones. have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, moved the earphone plug in and out in case connection not resetting, and rebooted! feel like "booting" the whole thing! on the verge of having to take the thing in.

I have no startup sounds, no external device speaker sounds, no mute is turned on, system says all is okay. What could be the problem

  • justwork1 Nov 29, 2008

The volume of my speakers seems to adjust itself arbitrarily. Sometimes I can hear it from the next room, but others I have to put my ear right up to the computer to hear even a faint sound. Same thing with headphones, but plugging in other speakers works just fine. I can always hear sound, but sometimes its louder than others, and I can't figure out why.

This sounds stupid BUT we all look for an elecronic/technical solution! HOWEVER I found my fix (I too had this same problem & spent hours trying to fix it) in an old article on the net!!! Try adjusting the MANUAL VOLUME WHEEL located on the bottom right-hand corner of your laptop (just below where it says Satellite)

Go to congrol panel, click on hardware and sound, then sound, to see if you have a problem. If all appears ok, go to system and maintenance, then click on device manager. If you have any yellow question marks, you have a problem. OR you could just go to system restore, and try reverting to the last date that your system worked.

Right click on the speaker icon in the System Tray next to the clock in the Start Bar. Click Playback Devices. In the window that comes up, select your USB speakers and click "Set Default" near the bottom of the window. Click Apply, then Ok. Your sound should now be coming through your USB speakers.

Hi, I cannot get sound to come out of my speakers. The speakers are small Polk audio speakers. Can you assist me?

First try plugging in other speakers or headphones into the output to make sure the problem is not there. If the other device works the speakers are still under warranty, you can return them to the manufacturer. If you still hear no sound with the other device, post what operating system you have and I can walk you through troubleshooting.

Our Compaq desktop computer has internal speakers. For some reason there is no playback sound coming from them though. We bought a new, green audio cord to connect to the CPU and monitor. This still...

Sounds like the drivers for your audio device are missing or corrupt.

Go to control panel/audio or sound devices and make sure your device is listed and checked to enable.

Next go to Hp and find which sound device is in your pc.
Download and install drivers for sound.

Or if you have the cd or dvd that came with the pc the drivers should be on there.

check to see the sound is working under the control panel .. system icon click and goto device manager

you might have a bad driver for the sound device or the device is bad on the motherboard

also test under sound devices.. and set the default device to use ..

New speakers do not work. Lime green cable

Re-starting the PC won't do anything for the speakers. The PC can't see them! What it can see is the sound device, card or on-board chip. If you had a previous pair of speakers working on the same connection, it seems unlikely that your sound device is to blame. Try slowly removing and re-inserting the plug a few times whilst some music is playing to see if the sound suddenly comes on. Some of these plugs are not too good at making connection! If this is unsuccessful get back and I will take you thro' proceedure to check your sound device. Ian. P.S. Take it the power light is on the speakers?

Popping sound coming from unit.

1. Check that the speaker input cable or input jack is not damaged. Do this but plugging in some other speakers or headphones into the computer and plugging the speakers into a MP3 player or cd player.

2. check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.

3. If the sound card is a separate discrete card then you can power down the PC (do powerdrain procedure to drain capactors) and reseat the sound card.
Hopefully some of this helps

Speakers wont work for my Hp dc5000

You will need to disable your pc speakers. If you are running Windows XP then you can do this through control panel - Sounds and audio devices. Your external speakers should be working then if you have the correct audio software for the motherboard.

No sound

Is this a Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop?

If so I can help you find sound drivers for it. You have to figure out if the speakers are the problem if you do not get an obvious error to indicate that it is a software problem.

Have you;

Checked power?
Checked plugs to make sure they are in the right place?
Swapped out the speakers with a set that you know work?
Used headphones to make sure the sound is actually coming out of the computer?

Let me know the answers to these questions please.
