My daughters MP3 player would turn on for 10 seconds, start to play a song and then shut off. After her boyfriend studied what was going on I then think to help he unistalled the firmware, as of now the computer recognizes that there is some kind of device but does not show it as a removable drive. Then I finally downloaded some recovery software from Creative and then it stated that a device is found, but when I put the serial numbe in off the unit, it tells me that that is not correct. Before this little puppy goes in the trash container, can anyone tell me how to get the firmware back on or a generic password to get me past the MSC recovery mode.

try downloading the MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.
You could try reflashing the firmware onto the player. Go to www.creative.com and look for the support section. Search under downloads for firmware for your player and download that. Follow the instructions on the website.
Recommend you take a look at this Creative MP3 PLayers FAQ site first, it has a lot of info. BTW, I have the Nano (but not Plus) and I think the reset-switch hole they refer to is next to the USB connector on mine.
