LG gsa-4167B DVD-ROM crashes system 90% of time when I use it
My DVD Rom crashes my entire system 90% of the time when it tries to read any CD/DVD. Seems to happen when starting to read disc...Also spins very loudly most of the time. Upgraded to firmware 13 with no luck...

you might have to uninstall both the dvd/cd + its drivers then reinstall them actually unplug the cd/dvd from its power cable then restart your computer plug it back in your computer should activate found new hardware or control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall hope this helps
some drives ( multi-Drives ) will read and write CDs but Only read DVDs.
Also check that the Drive supports DVD- Or DVD+ Disks.
Check that there are no yellow Marks In The Device Manager. to Do this:- My Computer/Control Panel/System/Device Manager to ensure all drivers are corectly installed.
your DVD ROM lens has became weak. and it cannot be repaired. But
if you manage to open the DVD ROM clean the dust in it & it will
start working again but be careful remember that no power should be
attached to ROM. or you can buy a lens cleaner from market and try that. pls rate my solution thankyou
What is happening is that the dvdrom firmware or the laser is failing and cannot read the disc; and because the pc is using all the system resources trying to do so; it appears that you cannot get anything to run, making it seem as if the hard drive is faulty also, though not the case.
You will need to replace the drive if this is a common occurance, as the life of a dvd drive nowadays dependant on use is aprox 2 years, because as the prices come down so does the quality of the laser required to burn and read discs.
HAL.DLL is Hardware Abstraction Layer. Dynamic Link Library.
You will need to reinstall this file for the
cd-rom to work properly. You can download the lastest version file from this web site:
as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking LG for any firmware updates, but first:-
Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall.
Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays.
Realplayer is ok for small .wav files and for browsing videos on the internet, but for watching a dvd i would use either Power DVD or Windows media player as they have all the supported sound and video codecs
Some media players have truoble reading different dvd depending on how they were burned or the file quality.
