My laptop screen won't turn on

My laptop screen recently stopped working for some reason. Before it went out my screen flickered on and off when I tilted it but would eventually stay lit. Now when I turn my laptop on the screen won't start up. My computer turns on because I can hear my fan and the power light turns on. I don't know if my screen finally died or if it's just stuck in sleep mode but I can't find a solution. I have a vaio laptop model PCG-384L, and it's 2 years old. Any info on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Hold down the power button until the light by the card reader goes out, swap DVD drives to install Vista (burnt copy anyway), install YouCam for webcam to work, Quickplay for remote control... Hope this helps someone as I had a hard time finding good information regarding this and it is hugely common for these machines. HP replaces different components for different customers and charges plenty for it if your serial # is not within range for free service... I just bought one for $100 that the "motherboard was fried" and had it working perfectly within hours (restarting right away so that I could then work with it) Have had many offers of as much as $350 already for it and wouldn't sell.

I have herd of this exact thing before, usually it is the Ribbon cable where it plugs into the motherboard, often the ribbon get cracked at this pint, sometimes it just needs to be reseated, usually though, it isn't that simple.. you should try to get a service manual and disassemble the unit and check that connection.
I found a link for the manual below.. http://www.retrevo.com/support/HP-DV6000t-Laptops-manual/id/13577bh926/t/2/

My laptop screen flickers in and out, screen goes black

Hello there,
The reason the screen flickers is simply because the module of the laptop is faulty. The module is what connects the screen to the main board, it is like a flex for the screen. Once you can have it replaced, the screen will stop flickering.

When the laptop is turned on, the screen rolls & flickers. I can press on the sides & it stops.

Hello collensdrea,
Welcome to FixYa.com!
Sorry to hear what's happening to your laptop. I would lke to ask you to follow a few steps to check and see if this is a faulty display or not. Please follow the following steps:
1. Turn the laptop off 2. Unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove the battery 3. Press & hold the power button for 40 seconds w/o the battery installed or the AC adapter plugged in 4. Let go of the power button, reconnect the AC adapter and put the battery aside for the meantime 5. Turn the laptop on by pressing the power button and the second you turn the laptop on, tap F2 several times to load the laptop's BIOS.
What is a BIOS? This is a special screen that let's you make changes to your laptop's motherboard. Please do not wander around as it may cause the more problems if you are not sure of what you are doing.
The reason why we went here is to see if we can still recreate the same issue i.e. the screen rolls & flickers.
If it still rolls & flickers, I'm afraid you need to contact Acer to have your computer sent to Depot or serviced.

Hi..i am using compaq presario cq 40 and screen is flickering.i had it checked and they told me lcd is the problem but they didnt even bother to check.they just turned it on and they told me that i have to...

When it flickers, can you still see the text when the screen goes dark?
May have to use a bright flashlight set right on the display to see
the text on the screen beside where the light sits.
That will tell you if it's the backlight.

You can also look at a grazing angle into one of the edges to see if the
backlight is flickering when the display does.
When it's cold, does it start with a slight pinkish color? That can be
a sign of backlight going bad.
Anything interesting happen when you flex the cable by moving the screen?

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I've never seen software cause
consistent screen flicker. And if the vga port doesn't flicker, sw is
even less likely the problem.

If you bet the odds, you'd bet on a bad display cable.
Won't hurt to try replugging it.

If that doesn't help, then your monitor may be dying....

The screen flickers periodically without any reason. If i giggle the screen or pull the screen down the up it staops.

Hi

The flickering happens because the flex of your laptop is getting weak.

The flex connects the screen of a laptop to the motherboard it is through it that data is passed to the screen.

It is found in all laptops and the more you open and close the laptop,it gets weaker and weaker.

The best thing to do to stop the flickering is to change the flex. You can also loose the laptop, remove the flex and fix it back properly but that may not stop the flickering permanently.

Note;if you cant loose the laptop yourself please get an expert to do it for you

Flickering screen of my lifebook s series

This sounds like a loose connection. If you can press on the back of the lid and it flickers or stops flickering, then it's definitely a connection problem. You will need to take the bezel around the screen off, the screws are hidden under small sticky tabs or the small rubber bumpers. Then take the screen loose and check the connection on the back. Replace the tape on the cable, if there is any.
