How do you bypass sensors for craftsman garage door opener

The sensors won't align - one is blinking green and the other is steady amber - the wall pad if held down will close the door, but you cannot just tap it or the remotes won't close it at all. We were hoping to just disconnect the wires to the sensors, but it still won't close all the way unless we hold the wall device until the door is completely shut. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The sensors are safety features so the door won't close on someone. When you hold the wall button down it's over riding the sensors, therefore it works when you hold down the button but will not work when you tap it or use the remote. Line up the photo cells so they stop blinking. If they're blinking they think something is in the way...hence not closing. If you can't get them to line up and stop blinking one may be defective. Contact the manufacturer and see if you can purchase a replacement set. They usually aren't too expensive, maybe $20/$40.

So, are you saying that you think the sensors are defective and they aren't detecting each other? If so, you should probably let craftsman know and ask them for a replacement.

My Liftmaster garage door won't open or close. I hit the button and it make a sound and clicks but won't close

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad. Tell me - if it won't open how do you know it won't close?

The sensors must be connected correctly. The solid white wires from each sensor go to terminal #2 on the motor unit and the white wires with the black stripe go to terminal #3.

It sounds like there might be a loose wire connection on the inside of the sensor. You could also be moving the position of the sensor slightly into alignment when you squeeze the sensor. You will need to disconnect the wires for the sensor on the garage door opener or disconnect the power. Then use a flatblade screw driver and carefully seperate the sensor case. Check for any loose connections on the wiring(you might need to re-solder the wire to the sensor eye). It sounds like a loose wire connection to me.

Check to make sure you have them properly connected at the motor. The solid white wire from each sensor goes to terminal 2 and the wires with the black tracer go to terminal 3.

My light on my craftsman garage door opener won't turn on

Unplug the unit from the power and take a small screwdriver and lift the center contact in the light sockets just a bit. This usually fixes the problem if you haven't had electrical surges or lightning.

Hod do I align the sensor lights?

Your problem is not with the safety eyes. You have a stripped gear inside the opener. Take off the cover and you will have white shavings in the bottom of the cover. You can repair this with a liftmaster gear and sprocket kit.
