It sound like you have you mouse and key board swopped in the ps2 ports. I dont think you mouse is hooked up right. If this is not the case...the key board has a key that's stuck down.
Thanks and please comment and review.
Theres are a few posiblities here
all the keyboards you have are bad ? unlikly
the chip that controls the keyboard is bad> more likly
or you have a keylogger gone wrong
i recomend taking the system in if using a key board that you know is good dosnt resolve the problem
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but most likly the mobo is toast because the controller for the keyboard went out thus no typing on the screen
this can bee fixed but its a diy job and finding the correct chip to put in it will be a quest at the least let alone actualy taking the old chip out and the new one in
i recomend contacting texas instraments if you decide to try and replace the chip thats where the i got the controler i replaced from
oh btw if your using wireless replace the batteries
something to look into is software installed for the device that hasnt been removed when you removed the driver in the device manager
here is a test to see if it is the controler chip
reboot your pc once it starts the boot phase try entering into the bios screen F2 should get you into the bios
once your in the bios that says that the controller is working because F2 was recived to get you into the bios try manuvering menues using the arrowkeys to furthere check
if you cant get into the bios F2 ,F8 ,F10 ,F12
then you definetly have a faulty contorler
start tapping the F key as soon as you restart or push the on button (2 times per secound is fast enough)
it might take a a try or two to get into the bios if you havnt every done so before so try several times befor saying its forked
on finding the contorler is good plan on reformating to get rid of anything that cause the problem in the first place
i my self i run 2 hard drives one for data and one for booting thus reformating isnt a big deal when it comes to losing data
i only have to pull my favorites file and any pictures that made it into my documents folder by acident
depending on the age of your system you might just consider getting a new system all togethere
im running a dimension 8300 and its a dinosuar from 2004 so not knowing when your 2400 was made i cant say forshur to scrap it but odds are its very outdated
best of luck the all knowing moron
Not sure if this is a solution but go into control panel / keyboards and see if it says there device is working properly. Also adjust a couple of settings there like the repeat rate just so the apply button lights up and reapply the settings. Hopefully it has just got itself confused otherwise you may have damage to the onboard keyboard controller. Hope this works for you..cheers from Scott
Because you have trouble shot so well, I think you may find that the actual keyboard handling chip has gone faulty, and is filling the buffer with garbage, and this is the clicking, and as also no characters are displayed, it seems as though it is also blocking the buffer as well... You mouse I assume does work? Tell me can you use ANY keys at boot up? Can you access BIOS? If you can... then it is NOT the motherboard as first thought.. but some windows fault, try that and lets hope it is a Windows problem, a repair install, or System Restore should get you back in that case. get back to me...
