Well that is a good question, If you can get at the pickup with cover removed first open door then close see if spindle turns and look for a red light to light up immediately.DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY into the lens can hurt eyes! If it lights gently clean the lens with a soft micro fiber cloth. Keep in mind it is very fragile, also check to see if disc turns. If that does not repair it New one is only about $30-40

Usually means the lens needs cleaning. Occasionally, it's a case of the drive binding. Try running a lens cleaner through it first. You'll want the type that's got optical quality brushes built in to the bottom of the disk.

If that doesn't fix it, it's likely a drive issue, which means it's time for replacing the unit - costs more to fix than replace.

If this doesn't happen with regular DvDs you rent or buy, there may be something wrong with the way you're recording DvDs then.
It could also mean the lens head on your DvD reader is dirty

DVV Player won't play disc

Check to make sure your player can play other disks. If so then use the disk doctor to remove the scratches on your favorite disk. The area that all DVD players scan before playing a disk is probably smudged or scratched.
