-   HEADS UP, new option!

I spent a few days on this in utter frustration, tried everything anyone has suggested. My Sansa Clip 2GB was toggling back and forth between connected and disconnected. Drove me nuts and I ordered a new one and started sending flame to the person on bought this one from on eBay.

Turned out to be: THE USB CABLE!

The USB cable that shipped from Sandisk is bad, flaky connection. Turns out the previous owner ignored it because it's so short. Used another longer one. I switched to a new cable and the Clip works perfectly!

So if you are getting weird behavior, especially irratic or a change in behavior, swap out the USB cable.

Comment by vickisanchez, posted on Mar 19, 2008 IT FINALLY WORKS !!!!

Sandisk Tech support had me do the following:

- Turn it OFF
- Put it in the HOLD position
- HOLD the center button IN while plugging into USB port, continue to hold for 5 to 7 sec even after plugged in.
At this point MY COMPUTER recognized it. And it worked.

He also had me to:

- go to WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
- In the upper right hand search bar, type in MTP PORTING KIT
I did this and downloaded the first one. Now my Sansa Clip work perfect. I wish I would have talked to him last week before I returned the last one, for the same reasons.

If this does not help call the 1-800 # , opt #4, and ask for GUY (yes that is really his name) out of 5 or so calls to Tech Support he is the only one who knew what he was doing, and how to actually HELP.
GOOD LUCK

I had the same problem. I switched to a different USB cord and all is well. The other USB cord was fine but very long. I surmise that the Sansa clip has a very low amperage output and must use a shorter cord so that the data signal does not attenuate.

I tried holding the off switch for up to a full minute, both plugged into the computer and not. I tried pressing the center button for up to a full minute, both plugged into the computer and not. I tried holding the right arrow and the volume up button, both plugged into the computer and not. These didn't do a thing.

Called the Sansa number again and spoke with a different person. He made some comment about "having an expensive paperweight." Apparently this is a widespread issue with Sansa Clips. They have recalled a bunch of them. They are sending me a new 4 GB one free.

I have Vista. Trying to download books from Audible.com. I had to change the "USB" to "MSC" in settings. Now it works.

I have tried using my Sansa clip on Windows XP and on Vista. It's not recognized by either. I tried reformatting the Sansa clip. I tried holding down the center button while plugging it in. I looked under Device Manager, and it's not there either. The computers don't see it at all. What do I do?

sansa clip is not recognised by my laptop. Some problem with the driver. I need windows portable devices driver

Comment by Delaurana, posted on Apr 23, 2008

My computer will not recognize my Sansa Clip (2 MB black). The player itself says it is plugged in, but my computer gives me absolutely no indication that it even registers anything being plugged in. I left it plugged in overnight (six hours at least) and it did not charge at all - I turned it on in the morning and it said "Battery Low" and shut off. I have tried different cables, different USB ports, restarting my computer, all to no avail. The player was given to me by a friend a couple of weeks ago, with no CD or anything, but it had been operating fine without software until this last weekend.

I have downloaded the Device Recovery program, it took two seconds (to do a procedure that it said would take "several minutes") and told me to call an 866 number. That person I talked to took me through a number of different steps, pressing different buttons on my player, but it is hard to get the player to do anything when it DOESN'T HAVE POWER. I downloaded the Driver Updater, and it did nothing. I have tried the Add Hardware wizard, and again nothing. I have read about switching it to MSC mode, but how do I do that without power?

The problem must be with the player itself, because both my computer at work (Windows ME) and my computer at home (Windows XP Pro) stopped recognizing it at the exact same time. It is hard to believe that both computers (with different operating systems) would start having problems at the exact same time.

Please help! I love my Sansa Clip, if I can just get it to work!
