Poor Wireless Reception on DELL Inspiron

Hi,

I have a Linksys Wireless Router in the house and I am having constant connection issues. The router is literally 10 metres away from the laptop on the upstairs floor of my house.

Not only is the connection unreliable but the speed once connected is also poor.

My partner has a MAC Book and he has no issues at all when he is in the house and it works perfectly. Could it be my DELL laptop?

Thanks
Caroline

Hi Caroline,
Have you tried going to the Dell site and seeing if there might be a Driver Upgrade for your Wireless Adapter?

Cant connect to my dell inspiron 8100

I think you should check the wireless settings of your router first.
If your wireless network is secured then make sure that you have the correct wireless network key WEP / WPA .
If your router is too old then it will be better to upgrade the firmware of your Linksys router.

Yes. 1. Disable the DHCP in the belkin router. 2. Take the cable from the LAN port of the Linksys router to the LAN port of the Belkin Router. 3. Dont touch anything else in any of the routers.

If your computer has 3 bars of signal, it's ok, don't mess with it.
If you want better reception, you can connect the Belkin wireless router near your notebook with a cable to the Linksys router.

I just reformatted my dell 8400 and lost my Linksys g router conn

After reformatting your dell 8400, did you reinstall all drivers of your devices? The linksys router won't be affected by the reformat. Your computer should still get connection from your router. This is a dell issue. If you have another computer connected and working with the router, that means the router is still functioning. Call Dell or linksys technical support. If they cannot help try this http://technicalsupport.blog.friendster.com

Linksys rangeplus drops wireless connection ever 5-10 mins

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the Linksys router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the Linksys router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: Linksys suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
NOTE: If the wireless connection remains unstable after performing the steps above, upgrade the router’s firmware. For instructions, click here
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
