Open the main cover and the carriage will move to allow you to remove the cartridges. Look to see if the red light is flashing. This will indicate which ink tank is causing the problem. Change it for another new one. if it now works then return the faulty cartridge to your supplier.

You need to clean your waste ink i think.
For troubleshooting purposes, please perform the following: 1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks. 2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover. 3. Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank properly. If it does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, as they are not currently installed in the printer. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank. 5. If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks are installed, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, if you inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another ink tank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of the issue is the last ink tank.
Replacing the five ink tanks (cyan, yellow, magenta, black dye, and black pigment) is a simple task. The top of the printer flips up to reveal the ink tanks and the printheads, and by flipping a lever, you can pull out each tank individually. Being able to replace individual tanks is a boon, as you won't waste colors you use less frequently. Also, you won't need separate photo ink to print photos, which we appreciate. Canon ships the Pixma MP830 with full ink tanks. Replacement color and dye-based black ink tanks cost $14.25 apiece, while the pigment-based black ink tank costs $16.25. Canon estimates the cost per page for both black text and color text to be an inexpensive 2 cents.
Hello! I have the same printer and the only ink cartridges I use are Canons own. I've tried these cheaper replacement ones and zip nothing will not recognise them. It is false economy as now I have a full bank of copy ink cartridges that charity will not even accept. Hope this helps! Paul 'W' Onyer~EDson(:0) {#>< U.K.
Try to open and close the main cover a bit, ... ink recognition will start and may solve the probleme ...
... otherwise remove the cartridge and clean the chip contacts e.g. with spirit
Maybe also pressing the stop/reset-button for >10s will also help to continue printing, but in this case the fill level of the cartridge will no longer be shown
Had the same error after replacing my black ink om my MP830.(UO71) I Put some Methylated Spirits on a cotton tip and gently cleaned the cartridge chip (allow it to air dry). This fixed my problem!
