Question about GE A830 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Cannot connect to PC

When trying to connect to my PC (using Win98) I see 'connecting' on camera screen and then 'connection failed' I have tried setting the USB option to both PC and PC(PTP) . The ARCSOFT software has been installed. Since it does not connect I guess that is why I do not see the camera as a removable drive. Thanks

Wrote to GE about the problem. Win2000 is required. Looks like they aren't interested in getting a driver written for Win98.

However, they suggested I transfer the pics to an SD card and then use an SD card reader (cheap enough) to transfer the pics to my computer. IT WORKS but I would much rather transfer directly from the A830 camera to the Win98SE computer via the USB cable..

Problem transferring photos to the PC

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com )

Hi there, I suggest you use a different port. The port that you are trying to connect to might be disabled. Hope this helps. Good luck!

What do I do when it reads 'Communication Error' on my Canon S90 camera screen?

This happens when you connect your camero to your PC. Try plugging into another usb port if doesnt work Uninstall the Canon Software on your PC unplug the camera then restart your PC. When the PC is ready then plug in your camera to the PC. Wait until you see the Removable Icon on the System Tray. Now go to My Computer then check if you will be able to access your files. If everything fails try to use a card reader

Thanks for using Fixya

W30 -USB connection

Load the drivers/software from the Sony CD that accompanied the camera and try again. You might also consider a USB connected flash drive "dock" for downloading rather than using the camera. They are not very expensive.

Camera says its conected, program says its not

Hi, You can try booting your Win98 PC with the camera already connected to the USB. Sometimes 98 has a hardtime detecting if and when a USB device is connected to it when it is already running. By booting with it already connected, 98 at the onset sees it and boots with all the needed support files. Further, by booting with the camera already connected, you can verify if drivers are really needed since 98 will auto detect with "New Hardware Found" message. It might just be that you have to reinstall the drivers all over again. Hope this be of some help to you. Pls post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
