Question about Dual XDVD8181 Car Video Player

DUAL XDVD8181 car unit - motorized TFT screen won't come out!

The DUAL XDVD8181 car audio/video/stereo has a motorized 7" TFT screen that supposed to come out of the shell and open up upright when the OPEN button is pushed.....On my unit when I press the OPEN button, the screen makes one Beeping sound and it moves forward very slightly but does not come out....When I press the OPEN button again it beeps 3-times, it moves back slightly again but that's it...If I pull the screen out of the shell MANUALLY with my hand, I'm able to open it and close it the same way, manually (not using the motorized function)...It seems that the motor inside is attempting to move the TFT screen out but it's either weak or has a problem.

I opened the unit up and examined all the gears and tracks ...they appear fine and the gears are aligned correctly and turn fine by hand....I'm not sure how to test the small motor but it appears connected fine...I lubed the tracks I was able to slide the screen in and out on its tracks manually with some resistance but it worked ok.

I'm not sure if the problem is with the motor or something else inside the unit...It powers up correctly and plays CDs and DVDs fine....The TFT screen works as it should when I pulled it out manually....

Can anyone help with troubleshooting the operation of the motorized screen?? Thanks

I don't think it's the ribbon cable the problem with this DUAL unit....Is this made by Pioneer?? I think the motor itself which powers the movement of the screen in and out is not working...In the beginning when I got the unit, the motor showed a very slight movement but now after I played with it a couple of times, it shows no movement - so I think it's a motor problem...the ribbon cable looks fine...Thanks

Open it again and check the ribbon cable for cracks, the one that get drag in and out every time it open and close. Because it is a defect for Pioneer too, and Pioneer would replace it free. Goodluck.

When i start my dual xdvd8181 they ask the password how can i find it. i find password 0000 or 9991 but is not working

You'll have to access Duals web site (good luck) or go to a car stereo installer and ask them $20-40.
Good Luck
P.S. it thinks you stole it...no incorrect code will work and may lock it out!

check on the main wiring harness you wil see a black box on the yellow wire. open up the cover. there is a 10 amp mini fuse inside. if it is blown replace the fuse. also check your main radio and accesssory fuses in your fuse box. if no fuses are blown check all wiring connections.

CAN I ADD A TV TUNER TO MY DUAL XDVD8181 HEAD UNIT

just hook up a vhs or dvd player from home that has tv outputs, but you would need a power inverter for the power supply of the vhs, then put the vhs audio and videos outputs to the dual's input: the auxiliars. make sure the vhs has channel changing.
