Oster Kitchen Center won't hold a steady speed

When using the mixer on my Oster Kitchen Center 900 series the speed increases and decreases on its own. Is this a problem I might be able to fix by replacing a part or is it beyond repair?
Thank you

Exact same problem with the exact same model . . . anyone out there who knows what the problem is?

  • crazysid May 04, 2008

It's only happened once and seems to be fine now. But I'm concerned that it might happen again.

I have the same problem and I would like to know also if I should repair it. It is a very old but yet faithful appliance and parts might soon get scarce so I would like to know which way to go

I'm having a problem with the speed being erratic. Other than that, it's still in great shape.

  • sueo-b Aug 11, 2008

Rather than being erratic, my entire blender and mixer are both slowing way down. It is becoming very difficult to use. I know it is dirty and am going to try to clean the base as best I can, but is there more I should/can do (as a non-mechanical person?) Thank You

Mine makes a lot of weird noises when changing speed or under load.

  • swanek2 May 23, 2009

Only runs on super high speed and everything flies out of the mixing bowl.

One link to a manual is dead.

The other fresh link tries to get you to register then wants you to pay $10.

    Don't waste your time...

    mackin212,

Before I start using brute force: How did you remove the motor/gear box from the base unit? The plastic slow drive ring and the blender square drive peg must be removable, I assume by holding the square drive steady and torquing the plastic drive counter clockwise. Please advise.

My wifes Oster Kitchen Center slowed down and I think finally stopped. I say I think it did because I took it apart two years ago and am finally finding the time to get it back together. I cleaned it, checked the brushes on the motor(all of this is in the base unit with the control buttons on it. The upper blender/beater arm has no electrics in it.) The brushes were coated with some kind of dried crusty stuff which was keeping them from contacting the motor.I put it back together and tried it but it only hummed and did not move.
I took it apart again, this time everything came out. Motor, electric wiring plus the metal gearbox attached to the motor which drives the blender and the upper arm. I took the transmission apart (it's attached to the motor in the base unit) and found the gears in it were so gummed up with who knows what. Probably everything that leaked out of the blender.
You see, what happens is that the seal between the blender black base and the glass jar started to leak after a few years but we don't notice it. Maybe we did but we cleaned it and we thought it was all good. But the liquid can leak down into the bottom unit around the drive teeth and that little square drive that the blender locks onto. And then it goes into the gearbox and the motor. So it is a major job to clean it. Since I don't have a manual for disassembling the lower base unit, I'm just putting it back together. I cleaned all the gunk out, put some grease on the gears and the gearbox is working better but I fear not perfect. It is 30 years old!! So unless you take it apart yourself or find an appliance repair shop (is there such a place anymore?) it might not be worth the effort. But it is do-able. How long have you got?

You can replace the speed control potentiometer or the entire speed control board. I replaced the one on my Oster Kitchen Center and it works like brand new. The board can be purchased at Appliance Parts Co., 1267 Dueber Avenue SW, Canton, OH 44706, PH: 330-453-8077, Oster PCB. Hope this helps you all.

Ron, saw you replaced a Oster Speed control on a Oster Regency Kitchen Center. We have one that may need replacing. I have a couple questions: 1. What's the potentiometer vs the entire board? 2. What the cost? 3. How difficult?

I don't know if you can buy just the potentiometer. I replaced the whole board. I could not find the potentiometer part number and source.

Oster regency parts

There are all kinds of Oster Kitchen Center parts and attachments for sale on Ebay. Here is another site that sells Regency parts: http://www.Goodman's.net

Can you help me with my Regency problem? I bought a used one with the hopes of using a lot of the attachments including a meat grinder (did not come with), but now after receiving the OKC there is no hole in the side of the mixer arm to attach the grinder - there is a metal circle. Do I need to punch out this circle - like an electrician does with an electrical box? HELP

Oster Regency kitchen center question

Look under the mixing head on the bowl side. There's a square "tab" that looks like the one on the back side of the machine. Pull it towards the bowl to release the mixer head from the base.
