Cant hear recording in Logic 8 with the UA25

Hi

I have recently just bought myself a Mac based set up included was the UA25. Firstly i would to say this is terrible. Signals are poor are covered in hiss. I know i am just a beginner but my skills aren't that bad!

Basically I have a problem. When i go to record Audio, it records fine and comes out fine but I cant actually hear the signal when I am recording.

So it records and when i playback I can hear what I have recorded, just when I am recording I cant hear anything.

Someone told me before that it was because i needed to check the Input monitoring box in Logic Preferences. But it is ticked and I still cant hear anything.

Trying to put an album together but it has been put on hold until I can sort this out.

PLEASE HELP!!

it is such an annoying niggly problem but when i am trying to record vocals and they cant hear themselves in the headphones they complain, ALOT.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

When I record with my m-audio mobile pre USB, there is no latency issues with recording but there is a delay in the headphones if I turn them up to hear myself while recording. How do I fix this? I'm using...

Have a read at this article. I assume you are using ASIO4ALL if not then you should.

http://www.image-line.com/support/FLHelp/html/recording_audio_USBmic.htm

Specifically this part:

Note about latency: USB microphones generally only allow you to hear the sound being recorded after it has passed through FL Studio. As the latency of USB microphones depends on the ASIO4ALL latency settings, there may be a troublesome delay between the sound made and it being reproduced from your speakers or headphones. For example, low latency monitoring is particularly important to vocalists as high latencies cause a distracting echo effect. The only solution to this problem is to lower your buffer length settings (there are limits) or obtain a new soundcard with direct-monitoring.

IMic doesn't work with Logic Pro 9

I had a similar problem, but I managed to solve it; however, I'm using different recording software. The iMic simply does not have built-in input monitoring. Chances are, you are getting an input-signal but it is not being monitored. Try to find some kind of input-monitoring in your recording software. I found a toolbar, in my recording software, called "playback state" that has an option for input-monitoring. Search the help file index, within your software, to find something similar. Here's a quote from iMic's quickstart guide that might be of further assistance:

"In order to hear your turntable or microphone, you will need to enable an important preference in your recording software, usually called “Playthrough.” It may also be called Monitor, Passthrough, Cue, Preview, etc. Enabling such a feature tells the software how to route your audio, and is necessary for monitoring even when not recording."

Moreover, once you've solved this, I recommend using the iMic for both input and output, as latency with onboard-sound-output will likely be intolerable for input monitoring.

Edirol not able to record on Cubase essentials

This interface works fine with other hosts but with cubase is more tricky. But you can fix it.

You need to disable the onboard sound card, also use the UA25 Asio drivers, go to programs/Steinberg cubase/ ASIO multimedia setup and you should see the UA25 outports are active and that the sync ref "YES" also that the UA25 Input ports are active. the next bit is a bit of fun select the Advanced options and select Detect buffer size, when thats finished select Check Buffers and Sync, press the start button and the test will run,if everything is ok you should have zero "Sync lost" and zero "Buffer lost"
Depending on how lower you want to get your latency , you may have to tweek the UA25 driver settings and re-run the setup above.

Edirol ua25 jack speaker output

Your are using powered speakers right? Or going into an amp and then the speakers, as the UA-25 does not have enough power to drive passive speakers.
Call Roland customer service and have them walk you through the device setup to make sure you've got everything right.
