Hello all,

I got the same problem but it came gradually...

In fact for a full month when I first boot the computer, the fans runs, no extra beeps, the light blinked correctly but no bios at the screeen. I remarked also that the fans run full speed doing a lot of noise. Then I stopped the computer and wait 2 minutes and then it always works correclty at the second boot with the bios screen appearing. Also, the fan calm down after 1 second with less noise. So when I start the computer and hear that the fan calm down with less noise after 1 second, I know that the computer will boot correctly. That happens always at the second try after waiting 2 minutes. But since yesterday, the fans never calm down and the noise still remains high with no Bios at the screen. I'm suspecting the Power Supply. Am I right???

Thank you for your appreciated help!

Michel

Fans can be driven by the power supply and is most likely why the fans run. The mother board is over 4 yrs old, and the BIOS battery may be dead. If this the case it is a simple fix, as most motherboards use a CR2032 disk type battery commonly available at stores like Wal Mart, Target, Walgreen's, Meijer’s, and even grocery stores.

Replacement is straight forward. When you do remove the old battery, allow the system to sit without the battery for a full 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes, replace the battery with the new one.

If replacing the battery does not work then the issue is more complicated. The motherboard's BIOS may have failed, you could have system memory (RAM) that has failed, the video may have failed and possibly the issue could be with the power supply.

BIOS
- When you boot the computer up does it Beep?
- How many times does it beep?
- Has their been any new hardware installed recently? New video card?

Memory
- Has any new memory been added recently?
- Is the system over clocked?
- Was the system recently subject to a static shock common in dry/cold climates?

Video
- If using an aftermarket video card, and the system was set to use a built in one (integrated video), was the system adjusted to use the new video card?

Power Supply
Although the fans are running, the issue could be the power supply. A weak power supply will run low draw items like fans and lights but will not have the ability to start the system. This issue will be especially true if there has been recent additions to the hardware such as optical drives, hard drives and USB devices that are not externally powered.

Could be 3 things Memory or CPU or Powersupply. are you getting any beeps if so how many, how long. try taking all the memory out and powering up see if it beeps if so try to put one stick of memory in at a time and see if it will boot. if you get no beeps with memory out check powersupply some PS's have a red switch on back for current input. switch back and fourth about 20 times uning a pen and set it to the right current for you location. put ram back in see if it will boot if not its trial and error of the PS and the CPU replacement and it still could be the RAM giving false readings. yea i know sounds like a ball of fun.

Why will my fan not run during use but i hear it when the computer powers up?

Fans, mainly the CPU fan, have a speed control which slows the fan down. This is usually controlled by the BIOS. The speed is based on temperature of the CPU. If it's cool with little load the CPU fan will run very slowly and you won't be able to hear it. On startup all fans ramp up to 100% until the BIOS takes over and slows the fan down.

I have a hp 635 laptop the fan does not come on at startup

if it won't come on at all then there is a problem. hp fans are set to come on with heat to keep things quiet. if you want it on all the time then make change in bios.

Blackscreen on start up

Welcome to fixya,

Acer Blank screen at startup My Acer Aspire One notebook goes to a blank screen at startup.
BIOS Recovery Systemkat107x130.jpg As awful as it sounds, this is a fairly common problem with Acer Aspire notebooks and it sounds like you have an issue with the BIOS - as long as you can see the power button and hear the fans running to indicate that it is not a power issue. Luckily, these notebooks come with a built-in BIOS recovery system that should get you up and running without damaging or losing any of your files. Know that doing this may void your warranty, so if you have a warranty, you should talk to Acer directly. Follow these steps EXACTLY, and it should work for you:
  1. Format a USB memory stick to FAT. Make sure it is bootable.
  2. Download the latest BIOS from the Acer website. Follow these links for BIOS for Aspire One 150 or this link for BIOS for Aspire One 110
  3. Put the FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file in the root directory of the memory stick.
  4. Rename the BIOS file: ZG5IA32.FD. It is important that you get the file name exactly right.
  5. Remove the drive.
  6. Turn the Acer off, but make sure you have a working battery and AC power connected.
  7. Insert the USB memory stick into a USB port.
  8. Press Fn+Esc and press the Power button at the same time. After a few seconds, release Fn+Esc.
  9. The power button should be blinking. Press it once.
  10. At this point, the BIOS will flash - don't press anything or interrupt this process. If you've done it right, the power button will stop flashing and the notebook will reboot. When it is all done, everything should be set to reboot.
Because you have an Acer Aspire One and you are getting the blank boot screen, I'm betting that this will solve your problem. If you are still having problems after following these directions exactly, then let us know and we can try to troubleshoot hardware or screen issues that may be the culprit.

Hope this helps.

Starting PC: No Beep, No LED on motherboard, all fans seem to have power. No videosignal at all. Videocard and cable OK.

This MAY be the power supply. Fans often run from different voltage than most of the processor.
The power on reset may not be releasing as one of MANY possible problems. Power supplies are less expensive to try tahn motherboards.

Power pack lights up fans turn on computer wont power up

Sounds like motherboard is not getting correct power. Could be as simple as installing a new power supply ( try tigerdirect.com for supply) or it could be as disheartening as a cracked motherboard. These are tricky problems, does your computer beep at all during startup? If it does find out the manufacturer of your bios, and look up the beep codes for that brand. Every bios has different beep codes that could be trying to tell you something.

Hi i forget my password bios hp nc6230 and the computer give me a message:Disk1 failure 1781 please you can help me?

Well... for the BIOS password, that's usually fairly easy. There is a jumper on most motherboards labeled CLRCMOS (some actually say CLR PASSword). Should be 3 pins, with a jumper set on 2 of them. move the jumper to the other side, press the power button. Nothing should happen, no fans or anything. then move the jumper back, and startup. Should clear out the password. As far as the disk failure- may have a bad hdd. download DFT, burn it, and run an advanced scan on your hard drive.

On startup fans only run a second then stop

I think this is fairly normal, most modern motherboards use thermistors to check the system temperature, (which windows then overrides) so on startup your fans will test for about a second and then turn off until the thermistor tells it the system is getting too hot ( I think this is called Acoustic management)

you should be able to bypass this in BIOS if you want, but as your system gets to windows those fans should kick in..

My comp is missing the startup files and i am missing bigfix programs how do i get the setup cds or dvds for the emachine i have now?

If system restore does not fix your computer, then you have hardware problems (overheating, faulty memory or CPU, or some other component). Start by looking at those possibilities.

Emachines wont boot

Bad capacitor(s) on the motherboard can cause this problem, corrupted BIOS maybe... try flashing BIOS.
Probably the CPU if your not getting any error code beeps on startup.. NO Processor for the BIOS instructions thus no Beeps !
