Hi!
You can check this link, this will give you instructions on how make sure that that the connection is right and how to configure the router for internet connection.
Just reply to this post in case you need more help.
Hi Linda........
1. You can disconnect the Rj45 cable from the PC & connect
it directly to your notebook's Rj45 port. You should have access to the internet if a minute or two.
2. if you want access to both, Pc & notebook you'll need a wireless router. Like the link below. Click it. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01
You can find these types of wireless routers at places like Wallmart & Best Buy. They come in even smaller packages.
With the software that is included you'll be connected to the internet in no time. Linksys also provides security so someone near to your home can not tap your internet service & get a free ride. Linksys provides setup assistance from day one.
Hope this helps you Linda!

I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?
Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.
If you are connecting to a WiFi Access Point from one laptop, and you know the encryption settings and the SSID (name of the WiFi connection) then you can plug that infomation into your other laptop WiFi connection page and you should be able to connect.
The configuration is very similar to XP.. you just need the information to put in on the Vista..
