Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Convergence problem Hi, My name is Ben Walker. I think I'm having a convergence problem from what I have been reading from other people's issues. The screen looks like a 3D picture. It looks like the red, green, and blue are not aligned. I have tried the auto and manual convergence, with no luck. In the Manual convergence, the red appears to be off on the vertical alignment. The remote doesn't make the adjustment to align those lines. The TV is about 5 years old. I have looked inside, but I'm not sure what to do. I would appreciate any help you can give. You can reach me at bwalker@meti.com. Thanks, Ben

After having a cable box and internet modem tower put on the jvc tv the picture started having convergence problems than a few days later the picture went completely out. I have been told that the main board is fried and I would need to send away to get part. Is this a simple fix

Our TV is also on the "blink" First the green went out of convergence, but we put a piece of paper over the green light and (although it was off color) if seemed to fix the picture. Now the red and blue are out of Convergence. I can not fix any of the colors with the menu screen. I really do not want to pay $400 to have this probelm fixed when I could buy a brand new one for that. What should we do?

Hi Mr. Walker,
The convergence failure seems to be very often on these rear projection TVs.
This repair might not be a DIY, but is not difficult but basic soldering skills are helpfull to do it.
Check this link to see the parts that need to be replace, the ICs have STK at the beggining and other numbers after.

Good Luck.

Sometimes these IC's are mounted on a seperate board. They use STK392-110 IC's . They are mounted on a metal heat sink that are fairly large . Also around them are resistors or fuses that protect them . The resistors tend to look alittle burn't but the fuses must be checked with a meter and are not glass fuses. They also look like resistors but start with a " F " letter . You might look to see if they have loose connections as well , this can also be your problem. Sometimes the IC's are mounted on board below the picture tubes , Thus meaning you'll have to access it thru the front of the tv removing the front speaker grille then removing the they access panel . Good luck

How do I fix a converence problem?

Hi.

First try using Autofocus. If there is a convergence problem this won't fix the problem.

Try using the convergence alignment procedure from service manual.

Here the procedure that works on most Hitachi rear projection.

Here the grid with convergence problem

If the procedure does not work, then the two STK392-110 on convergence board must be replaced.

Before replacing the ICs you can test the pico fuses located on convergence boards. Simply read ohms to test if they have continuity.

Better also testing components on convergence board like resistors located at the base of STKs.

After removing the old STK, the new ones must be re-soldered using cooling paste.

Price for single IC can is about $8/$20. I think
STK392-110 on this model can be better replaced with STK392-150. I suggest contacting the seller on this.

The service manual is available here.

RCA P52960 Problem (bowed picture)

Normally this is either bad connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this. First locate the convergence ICs: large black ICs attached to a heat sink that shouldbe marked STKxxx. Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that fails, replace the ICs.

Keep me posted.

60PP9352 60 in. Rear - Blue convergence issue

Replacing only the ICs MAY solve the problem, however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.
You do not have to replace any transistors to fix this convergence failure.

Does the blue and red crosses move at all ... eather vertically or horizontally. if they move at all then it may not be the chips.. could be a resistor. if the crosses dont move then it probally the ic. these chips run about 7 to 45 dollars apeace depending on type. at our shop we charge around 125 to put in.

Sony HDTV Convergence Issue

No, You will not solve the problem with only changing the convergence IC, associated resisters may also be required.
Beside of that, after spending time to get parts and replace the ICs, you need to make and adjustment the color lines (about 14 lines)
This adjustment without experience will take you about 3 to 4 times and 4 hours each to get thing right (if you areskillfull, most of people failed this adjustment).. The total time spend for this problem would take you full 24 working hours.
I successfully adjusted one set of my big TV (95%, need more more round)), on another set one I failed.

Hi! Guy,
I don't think your problem was caused by lightning. It sound like defective convergence ICs. This must be checked and verified by a qualified service tech.

Power supply/convergence issue...

Your Projo is a complicated piece of equipment, involving 3 picture tubes (like 3 tv's), convergence failures are extremely common, I dont think $550 is totally unreasonable, but I dont think it is a power supply issue if it is just effecting 1 color, usually it would cost around $100 parts $300 labor to repair, might be a little high, I suppose they are also charging you for pickup and delivery, I hate taking sets into office as that sometimes jars stuff loose or cracks boards.
