We cannot get tv to turn on!!! If we use the on/off button the red light

starts blinking and we also get a clicking sound. In trying to get the tv

to turn on, we unplug the tv and wait 10 seconds and plug back in. This

can sometimes take hours. Please let us know what to do and how

much it would take to repair and if we could possibly repair ourselves.

We have only had this tv for probably five years. I bought it brand new

and spent $2,000.00 on it. I cant believe that this item, costing as much

as it did, would only last 5 years. If that's the case, you better believe

I will never buy a Toshiba product again and let everyone else know

what a bad product it is.

    Please get back to me

Have the same problem with my Toshiba... It's ashame that toshiba has not recalled this problem with the blinking light burn out .....

  • Anonymous Aug 27, 2008

I've had the same problem. Its happened at least 4 times now and I'm tired of it. Toshiba knows they have a problem. Maybe when it burns someones house down they'll decide to recall this.

Same problem - can it be fixed short of taking it to a TV repair shop. I've had good luck fixing other elctronic units as long as they're discreet components.

Me Too, I replaced the convergenvce chips about two years ago, looks like I'll have to replace again. This time it happened when I left the X-Box on overnight.

I had the same similar problem and through the process of unplugging and re-plugging the set I finally got the set to come on and stay on, then smoke started coming from the back of the tv from a convergence chip. What I found out was that the chip shorted out tripping the tv safety and I overcame that burning the bad chip completely out eliminating the short but with the blue color off. The chips generally are only $5-10 from -
BTW - I think this is one of the better picture quality projection tv's out there compared to my hitachi, sony, and rca and even a friend's mitsubishi.

When I power on my Sony Bravia TV, I can see the green power light in the front, but no picture and no audio, what do I do?

Hi Sai,
You have done what you could do. Here on please let the TV tech take over. Because you need to check the power board and the main board with a multi meter before diagnosing the fault. Good Luck.

Short circuited component/s at its main board. These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it.This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power led, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times.Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here.It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

TV won't turn on. Red standby light blinks

Samsung told me this was a common problem and I would have to have it serviced by an authorized repair facility.
My problem ended up being the internal power supply, but they also told me the main boards burn up.

Red light blinking, tv doesn't start

Your TV is in Protection Mode right now. A part inside the TV has failed and the TV will not turn ON to prevent other parts from being damaged. The red light blinking is an error code for diagnosing the problem part on the one of the power supply boards. The problem boards that need to be looked at is the Backlight Inverter Board or the Main Power Supply Board.
There is a slim chance you can leave the TV unplugged for an hour so the TV can discharge and reset itself. But other than that, I would use the warranty if possible. The TV repair shop maybe expensive, so get some price quotes to see if it worth the trouble.

No Picture - Sound

I just had this problem fixed. In my case, it was because the insulation on the CRTs was cracked, and when it would warm up, the shielding would separate and would let 5000 volts arc across the main board. This, obviously, damaged the board. The tech didn't catch the arcing right away, so they replaced the main board twice before they used a high-temp RTV to patch the insulation.

The power-cycling was a result of the damaged board.

The point of this story is that the broken part may be a symptom of the real problem.

I hope this helps someone!
