Question about Hoover U6434-900 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Can I fix height adjusment?

Height adjust dropped down(?) so even at highest setting roller digs into the pile of a typical height carpet (hard to pull back too). Despite explaining problem twice the recommended authorized repair tech didn't fix, but I was charged $115 for new roller, belts and filters.

The beater brush will no longer drive under a load on short pile carpet

Have you tried changing the height adjustment? There should be a knob or lever that allows you to adjust the height of the beater brush to accommodate different carpet lengths. Even with a new belt, the brush will not spin if the height is too low. Try adjusting it all the way up, then while it is running, adjust it down until there is some resistance. The beater brush should just barely scrape the top of your carpet.

Change the belt on the unit, and adjust the height adjustment until the brushes are just touching the carpet. I know you mentioned the belt looks good, but when you get the new EXT-U belt, you will notice a size difference. Good luck!

This is a typical problem you are describing. I would recommend you change the belts, this will resolve the "hard to push" and most likely resove your issues. based on the s/n given you maching was made on sept 2004.

New brushroll for eureka smartvac 4870; bristles too long to turn

HI Don't forget that you have a height adjustment control so its better to put it in the highest position - if this is not allowing the roller brush to move properly on the carpet then switch the vacuum off, and lightly trim with scissors on the brush lines. Avoid cutting everything down though - a slight trim should improve things. Generally though when brushes appear too long its usually because the height adjustment dial hasn't been set upwards.

Kirby creating dirt under carpet?

It is possible that the height adjustment on your Kirby is to close to the carpet, which could account for the problem you're having. The correct height adjustment for your Kirby is this-Lower the height adjustment down until you hear a change in the sound, then adjust one more click down. The Kirby is at the correct height for cleaning. If the carpet is different in another room, adjust it the same way for each carpet

Bobbing up and down?

its more than likely the pile of the carpet is a little tighter in some areas of the carpet than it is in others. and, then you have to concider the grain of the carpet. I know your going GRAIN ?? what the ??? and scratching your head but yes even carpet has a grain. mine does the same thing and i have noticed that when i change directions over the same area it will not bob.

Belts keep burning up

It sounds like you have a roller problem. This machine has a carbon fibre roller suspended on plastic end caps. When dirt and hair etc. gets in and damage the bearings, the belt will be the first thing to go. If the roller is noisy, that indicates that it is off centre and is rotating unevenly. You will probably have to replace the roller.
Take the belt off and rotate the roller slowly and observe the ends. If it is off balance, it will not rotate evenly. The plastic caps unscrew to reveal the brngs and usually you will find hair and other junk gumming up the works. If the roller is damaged, you will be able to see melted plastic and chards of carbon fibre there.

Carpet Height Adjusment

In addition to the tab that contacts the bottom of the slider, there are 2 protusions on the adjustable wheel plate that move through holes in the housing, but only when the handle is tilted to begin vacuuming. The wheel plate has a spring that forces the tab against the slider. As the handle is moved to the upright position, the protusions move back through the holes, taking the tab away from the slider and the wheel plate locks in its highest position. Therefore, the position of the slider has no effect while the handle is upright and locked. Hope this helps.
