How to copy your commercial DVDs to the ARCHOS 7

With an 800x480 pixel-wide resolution and a 7" TFT LCD screen, the ARCHOS 7 can absolutely provide users with the best cinema experience on the go. You can watch your movies in full width, which will give you the same viewing comfort as a TV in your living room. Your video watching experience on the go will never look so good.
Because of the excellent cinema experience, and its huge capacity - both 160G and 320G versions are having enough room to store movies, more and more users would like to copy their DVD collections to the handheld device. To copy a commercial DVD to the ARCHOS 7, you need a program called Pavtube DVD Ripper to rip it into ARCHOS 7 compatible file formats, like AVI, MPEG4, AVI video, and WMA, AAC, WAV audio. The following paragraphs will detail the steps of how to rip DVDs for playback on ARCHOS 7, if you are searching for such a solution, just read on it to get what you need.
First of all, you can download Pavtube DVD Ripper here.

Step 1: Load DVD files
Click "DVD Rom", "DVD Folder" or "IFO/ISO" to import DVD files to this program. This utility allows users selecting their needed chapters to convert, and you can right click on a title, and then do selections on the popup window, like "Uncheck All", "Show Chapters", etc. By the way, usually, the one with the longest duration time is the main movie, so just tick off this one would be OK.
Step 2: Select output format for ARCHOS 7
Click on the pull down menu of "Format", and then all the format profiles will be listed out as below, just select "Archos" firstly, and then choose a format for ARCHOS 7, here I select "Archos 5/7 WMV Video (*.wmv) for instance.
Step 3: Set advanced settings
Click "Settings" button, then you are able to adjust video and audio parameters like codec, bit rate, aspect ration, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channel in the following interface. Basically, the default settings can ensure the output quality to be good, so, if you do not have special requirements, there is no need to change the settings.

Step 4: Click "Convert" button to start DVD ripping
Once your DVD is ripped, you can find out the output files via clicking on "Open" button, and then drag the file over to your ARCHOS 7 for playback.

cannot get the picture wide

Firstly you have not mentionrd thr Make & Model of your monitor.
Assuming it's a LCD Monitor you could try the following:

Modern monitors have a 'native resolution'. While most LCD monitors can display a wide variety of screen resolutions, the native resolution will always look best, since this is the screen resolution that matches the number of pixels inside the display. Any other screen resolution may look blocky or distorted, since the number of pixels used in the picture will not match the actual number in the display.

You can adjust your computers display resolution easily. For best results with your monitor, you should use the latest display drivers and monitor drivers and run your monitor in its native resolution. For more information on updating your display drivers, see this link.

i install window 7 but my benq 15" lcd monitar's screen rosuation not competible. pls guide me how i increase the rosulation thnx

As for your 15" LCD BENQ Monitor, "1024 x 768" pixels is the Maximum Resolution
If you increase your screen higher than the Maximum resolution you get a black screen! because the monitor cannot support the resolution higher than "1024x768" pixels.

How to change your screen resolution Win 7-> Link

FYI
Here are typical resolutions for some popular screen sizes
19-inch screen (standard ratio): 1280 x 1024 pixels
20-inch screen (standard ratio): 1600 x 1200 pixels
22-inch screen (widescreen): 1680 x 1050 pixels
24-inch screen (widescreen): 1900 x 1200 pixels

Hope it helps.

video conversion

Hello Andrew,
Even though the website claims Archos can play videos of DVD resolution it cannot play videos of such big resolution 800 x 480..To display the full DVD resolution, you would either have to buy the HD add-on plugin (presumably for $20 as it is not available yet), which allows resolution higher than 720x480, or to buy the MPEG2 plugin, which allows you to play a raw DVD VOB file...So also it plays videos of Square pixels,So try to reduce a bit of resolution to 720x480....!!!!...Better Reduce the Resolution of the video to 740 x 480 and the bit rate while Converting, so Your Archos can play the MOvie Completely and you can watch it...Also I hope the Embeded Subtitles in the movie(MP4) doesnt work for which you have to get a seperated Plug-in i guess...Thank you!!!...

Don forget to rate the solution..

Please post back for further assistance...

Good Regards!!!..
