Question about Mag Innovision 19" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor LT916S

1 Answer

Screen blacking out.

Screen goes black after a few minutes. If you shine a flashlight on the
screen the image is visable.
This to me indicates the PS is OK but the problem is most likely the
"backlight" or the power inverter.
The problem right now is to get the case apart without a chain saw.
Removing the stand and 4 screens along the bottom is the first step.
Trying to pry the case apart is what I am hung up on.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK...I figured out how to seperate the case...LCD portion from the back of the monitor.

Some very delicate connectors to deal with.

Now I am trying to remove the metal plate that shields the back of the LCD assembly

to gain access to the area where the bulb and inverter are located.

This is not easy so far...don't see how it is held together.

Hi, I used to fix a monitor from Dell. There are 4 screws at the back of rear panel and no screw at front frame. If there is no visible screw, you have to look for "capped" screw holes (little covers that fit flush with the case to hide the screws). If you don't see these neither, this must be a tension fit case. So, face the screen up and look for "rectangular hole" on the side edge (usually at the bottom edge of the screen). This will be a challenge to open without breaking it. You'll need a very thin flat screw driver and wedge it into that narrow rectangular hole. You can use any prybar if you don't have screw driver. It is not too deep. You may stab something important inside and pry it. Once it starts to spread, start sliding it along the seem and you should feel the tension tabs start "popping" open. Continue to work your way around until it's off.

For the metal plate that shields the back of the screen, There are some screws you have to deal with. Those screws are at the power and screen connectors.

Thank you,
Tan

Hello, do you keep the sound? if you do, take a flashlight when it goes out and shine it across the screen, can you see a dim image? if you do the L.E.D. driver/power supply board may be bad. let me know....tks

Monitor has power. Will come on very briefly and the go to black screen. Can turn power off and back on and get the same above result. After a 2-3 hour period may come to life...may not.

It appears as if the monitor's back lighting is failing. To test the theory, take a bright flashlight and shine it on the lcd monitor screen when it goes black. If you can see the images that were on the screen before it went dark while shining the flashlight on the screen, then the back lighting is failing. Depending on the monitor, it could have florescent or L.E.D. back lighting, but it's usually more economical to simply replace the monitor with a new better performing monitor, than to attempt repairing the back lighting on the failing monitor.

47in Phillips-tv picture goes black still has

Could be the signal board has a bad cap, in this case it sounds like you are getting intermitten power to the inverters....when the tv goes down and of course you have audio....Shine a flashlight on to screen and see if you have a picture...look carefully. If this is the case..you have the above problem!

Screen goes black after a few seconds.

when the screen goes black shine a flashlight on it. If you see a dim image the back light needs to be replaced. Otherwise check the inverter as that may be causing the problem as well.

TV was playing, then the screen turned black.

If the screen is black and you have sound then lightly press and shine a strong flashlight against the screen. If you see an image around the edge of the flashlight, an image is being 'displayed'. The problem is probably in the Inverter/CCFT or the power going to the Inverter.

Monitor comes on, I can see everything perfect then goes black

"Most" newer monitors will let you know if the are no longer receiving a signal. Sounds like the backlight is burnt out. Try getting a bright (LED works best) flashlight and shining it at the screen at all angles to see if you can see any of what you were doing. If the backlight is on the fritz, either return it on warranty or buy a new one.
