Question about Mag Innovision 19" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor LT916S

1 Answer

Screen blacking out.

Screen goes black after a few minutes. If you shine a flashlight on the
screen the image is visable.
This to me indicates the PS is OK but the problem is most likely the
"backlight" or the power inverter.
The problem right now is to get the case apart without a chain saw.
Removing the stand and 4 screens along the bottom is the first step.
Trying to pry the case apart is what I am hung up on.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK...I figured out how to seperate the case...LCD portion from the back of the monitor.

Some very delicate connectors to deal with.

Now I am trying to remove the metal plate that shields the back of the LCD assembly

to gain access to the area where the bulb and inverter are located.

This is not easy so far...don't see how it is held together.

Hi, I used to fix a monitor from Dell. There are 4 screws at the back of rear panel and no screw at front frame. If there is no visible screw, you have to look for "capped" screw holes (little covers that fit flush with the case to hide the screws). If you don't see these neither, this must be a tension fit case. So, face the screen up and look for "rectangular hole" on the side edge (usually at the bottom edge of the screen). This will be a challenge to open without breaking it. You'll need a very thin flat screw driver and wedge it into that narrow rectangular hole. You can use any prybar if you don't have screw driver. It is not too deep. You may stab something important inside and pry it. Once it starts to spread, start sliding it along the seem and you should feel the tension tabs start "popping" open. Continue to work your way around until it's off.

For the metal plate that shields the back of the screen, There are some screws you have to deal with. Those screws are at the power and screen connectors.

Thank you,
Tan

Monitor has power. Will come on very briefly and the go to black screen. Can turn power off and back on and get the same above result. After a 2-3 hour period may come to life...may not.

It appears as if the monitor's back lighting is failing. To test the theory, take a bright flashlight and shine it on the lcd monitor screen when it goes black. If you can see the images that were on the screen before it went dark while shining the flashlight on the screen, then the back lighting is failing. Depending on the monitor, it could have florescent or L.E.D. back lighting, but it's usually more economical to simply replace the monitor with a new better performing monitor, than to attempt repairing the back lighting on the failing monitor.

Acer 22W monitor goes blank after a couple of seconds. Please help.

tjpartners, Have you determined if your display is BLANK, or just BLACK!!! Yes, it can be both! But sometimes if you shine a brite flashlight about 1" from the screen you will be able to see if the screen is only BLACK, but not BLANK because you can still see a very faint image of the Win-Desktop if you look closely. If you see the image then that means the "switch-mode-power-supply" is only in partial shutdown mode and trying to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure! Do the flashlight trick and do a repost to your original message if possible. 12fixlouie

when the screen goes black shine a flashlight on it. If you see a dim image the back light needs to be replaced. Otherwise check the inverter as that may be causing the problem as well.

Monitor comes on, I can see everything perfect then goes black

"Most" newer monitors will let you know if the are no longer receiving a signal. Sounds like the backlight is burnt out. Try getting a bright (LED works best) flashlight and shining it at the screen at all angles to see if you can see any of what you were doing. If the backlight is on the fritz, either return it on warranty or buy a new one.

Picture goes black on Mag Innovision LT765b

I used to repair LCD monitor from Dell. It works for me. You might be using these following steps to examine what wrong with your monitor. After you turned PC on and monitor stopped working or went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image (Start menu), there will be a minor problem. This is because of CCFL lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you.

My screen has been going black

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. Power on both CPU and monitor. After went black, you have check if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. Like mine, I can see window image using flashlight and check lamps inside. Some of them were broken and it is easily replaced. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Display problem

When the screen goes dark shine a flashlight in the lower right hand corner where the Start button typically is located. If you can see faint images then you have a backlight problem. If you don't see anything then try connecting a spare monitor in its place. If that works then you have some other type of problem involving your LCD monitor. In both cases unless you have the experience and tools to safely work on fairly delicate electronics this is not a repair job for the typical consumer.
