You can try to reset the dvd Player to the factory specification by using the default option in the preference menu. Use the remote control and push the set-up button. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the preference option. Press ok and enter the sub-menu. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the default option and press ok.This will reset the DVD player to the factory specifications. If this does not work for you . Try cleaning the DVD lense with a cotton swab and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Put a small amount of alcohol on the tip of swab and rub it back and forth gently across the lense, until it appears bright and shines. Also check the laser transport and see if it need cleaning of the dust and debris that can accumulate in the in the
dvd compartment. Use cotton swabs with small amounts of alcohol to clean the transport rails and gears.Check to make sure the action of the transport is not impeded by any dust or debris. Also check the gears and make sure they are clean and look in good working order. After doing all this take a can of compressed air and blow all the dust and debis from the dvd compartment. Try playing a cd or dvd and see if the palyer is working properly. If not check the spindle and make sure it is snug and working correctly, holding the dvd correctly for the laser to read it. If it feels loose try using a drop of super glue to make it snug again.Try playing a cd or dvd and see if the player works correctly. If not then you probably are having a problem with the laser lense itself or the motor drive. They may have lost the ability to run under specifications due to useage or ageing. For these problems you should call Phillips Customer support at 1-888-744-5477. Give them the modle number of your dvd player and the problem you are having with it not being able to read discs. They will be able to tell you how to have it serviced and repaired. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

SOURCE: never show video

There are 3 possible causes for this problem:

1) Dirty lens - clean the lens with a lens cleaner or a non-abrasive foam cleaner on a cotton swap & leave to dry. If this doesn't work try the next option.

2) Hardened grease on the laser track - If the track grease hardens, it will impede the movement of the laser. - Turn the device off, and GENTLY push the laser to the outermost position from the centre. This will redistribute the track grease. Try a disc again.

3) If 1) & 2) haven't helped, then the problem is most likely a faulty laser or mechanism, which would have to be replaced.

I have a Samsung DVD R160 recorder. A few days ago the recorder was not on and it was making a noise like it was trying to read a disk. This went on for quite a while. I then turned it on and it would...

Try this, look for a small hole on the front of the unit.Use a pin and press in to see if it opens, ejects the disk .If no hole try seeing if you can press ,lift, pull at the door/slot while pressing the open door/eject either on the unit or with the remote control. It sounds like you may have a bad CD/DVD (copy) that the unit is trying to read/load but can't. keep trying to eject CD/DVD if this doesn't work unplug unit for 5 minutes, try open door again do press and hold open repeatedly I know it's frustrating but it just may eject.Don't use this recorder for playback of DVD buy a $30 DVD player the cheaper the better they play anything.GOOD LUCK

Dvd player hangs up while playing

Sir I dont think its the dvd that is not working I thisnk its the screen that is starting to fail, it can be that the dvd is not sending the video signal to the screen when you open it and thatt is why you only get the blue screen and nothing else, because if the dvd was not working let it be the laser or a motor the most common message that you get in the screen is no disc, but that is not your case so I would have the screen check on that portable dvd.

Dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck

DVD player froze, now only turns off

Sounds like the power supply in the dvd player has failed. It works just well enough to turn on the led infront but as soon as you go to do anything it shuts off. This is common in cheaper dvd players. Unless you can troubleshoot electronics. Or know someone that can. Your best bet is to unplug the unit and disassemly and retrieve your dvd.
